Thtas the way I've read it.

Nicely thought they provide what they say 20,000 song storage.   So I've backed up most (but not all as some exceed the individual files size) 16yrs of Essential Mixes, tons of other >30minute mixes, plus the ~6500 tunes I've ripped myself.

Worth noting there may be some issues with backing your own tunes up though, as they use a form of song matching, so if there is an existing version of a song you are backing up then it doesn't upload your version and instead uses theirs.  This means you may end up with sanitised versions of your music.

Still for less than one fuck-all I'm not complaining.

Bitcasa was log in Beta (12 months ago) couldn't run .exe's in its folder.. Probably all been sorted now but I gave up and got Skydrive instead.

I can think of good reasons not to permit executables to run from network drives.  It should be read/write only.

That's not cloud storage though is it, or am I missing something? Just syncs between two machines?

I think the idea is that it is like cloud storage - but stored on many many computers around the world (like torrents etc..)

No, I don't think it does that either unless you own and sync many, many computers. It just uses torrents to sync between you computers.

Quick question for all Cloud loving people on this thread.

What do you put on Cloud storage?

Do you trust the security?

Everything. Yes.

Far more secure and safe than having everything on a spare HDD in a cupboard... imho

Yeah I've been backing everything up to Zovo for nearly a year now. It's excellent.

Yeah Zovo seems to be working well for me to. I also have been using my Skydrive for some specific tasks. I got the free 25gb upgrade so have been using the desktop sync tool to upload. The only downside is you can't current schedule to sync overnight (when my connection is unmetered). If you didn't get the free upgrade the standard size of Skydrive is 7gb which is less useful but still worth having.

If one of the devices is server space in the cloud (e.g. Amazon S3 or similar) then you have your data backed up in the cloud.

It'll be great for private, secure p2p networks for file-sharing between mates, etc.

 :-\

Been worrying about backups and have a hdd somewhere on a shelf with a 1 year old back up on.  I'm using dropbox and google drive for work stuff but would really like a proper full cloud backup...

Taaadaaaa -  :great:

Just signed up and got a free account (by recommending on Faceache  - see http://zovo.co/social/ )

Cant wait to get it set up tomorrow and get everything backed up.

Is it particularly memory/cpu intensive - I find having both dropbox and google drive running is starting to slow things down.

Zovo looks awesome but I wonder why it has such a low profile - e.g. hard to find recent reviews, no comparisons to the big backup services, fairly inactive twitter account, etc.  Just makes me wonder if they'll still be about in 5 years time.

I went for Crashplan which so far has been great on the (luckily) few times I've needed to find a file that I thought had been lost for good. It is however £150 to backup with no space / number of computer restrictions so a lot dearer.

Copy

Better still use the above modified link or this one and you get an additional 5Gb (and so do I for each referral).

people still happy with Zovo?

anything else I should consider?

We use the free space on Google drive and Skydrive for photos, but I could do with a shed load more space to backup my video files

Me to, although I did read they were having problems. Their twitter support feed has been pretty quiet lately. I imagine if they did stop trading we would be given the option of moving accounts to Livedrive. Remember like any backup to try restoring something from backup every now and then, otherwise its not a backup.

If you have a onedrive (formerly Skydrive service) and paid to get more than the free allowance the price has just been halved...

But the real bonus is that if you subscribe to Office365 - you get 1TB of onedrive rolled in for free... masses.

(I think thats £59 to 79 a year depending on how many PC's)
(if you are in education its £59 for 4 years sub to Office 365)
(you also then get the full iOS/Android office aps for your tablet)
