And you can also grab an extra 3Gb of space from Dropbox.

Upload some really large pictures then delete them to use the space for something else.  :2thumbsup:

This might be of interest to somebody.  Using your Box storage as a free incremental backup solution.  This assumes Windows 7 but I'm sure it'll work on other flavours too.

- Grab Netdrive (free for home use) and follow this guide to mount your Box storage space as a normal windows drive.

(I know you can just mount the Box space as a network drive (see posts above) but if you do that then Crashplan can't use it, it needs to think it's a local drive)

- Now grab Crashplan. Crashplan is free for use with local folders and other computers.

- Setup Crashplan to backup whatever you want and select the Folder option.  Select the drive that is mounted with your Box storage.

- Voila, 50GB of free incremental backup space.  Crashplan is a "set it and forget it" app that will just perform backups as required.

I'm sure this will be possible with other cloud services too so you could build up space as required.

Edit - this doesn't actually work. Crashplan reports it has backed up but box rejects the backup file due to the individual file size.  Am working on a solution with other backup services...

A windows version of rsync would probably work mounting box.net as a network drive (it certainly works under Linux).

If you don't know about it already I've used Karen's Replicator to backup to network drives. It replicates the file structure rather than have a backup file. I'll try it myself when I can.

Further if you don't see the upgrade straight away when u join. use it once (put a document in) and come back to it. You'll get the 25 gb offered then

As does the rsync solution I posted (and its efficient, only syncing the portions of files that have been modified).

I forgot to update the above post, Crashplan works happily with Google Drive, as there's a 10gb file restriction.  That said, I'm only backing up 3gb of data so far.

Will check out the other things you've posted.

Should highlight that I've only successfully used rsync under Linux (no M$-Win system to try it on, so there may be subtleties that crop up).

Anyone tried this?

http://www.mypcbackup.com/

Just found it while googling so I've no idea if it's any good but it looks like unlimited free storage and automatic updating of files..... which sounds good.

I wouldn't trust them if they can't even design a proper website. I use Zovo.co which was free for the first year then about £20 I think. But I'm also a bit wary of them so tend to only upload photos and music, keeping docs backed up elsewhere.

Something that occurred to me a while back is a brilliantly simple scam would be to create a free 'secure' online back up service, and just nick personal and financial details from the files people upload to you. And if i've thought of it I'm sure plenty of crims have already.

Ta.

This looks as if it will be a useful read when I find the time to get round to it:

Sounds like Zovo is a reseller which uses the Livedrive back end.

http://www.onlinebackupdeals.com/livedrive/zovo-online-backup-launched/

They are quite a bit cheaper than Livedrive so may be worth a look.

Went with Zovo which is part way through uploading and backing up all my shit for £20 a year.

Already been really really useful as just now I was able to log on at a client's and get some figures from another client's tax return which I needed to send to someone.

Excellent :) Yup cloud storage is the mutts nuts for me.. I've been able to share folders with co-workers, and Skydrive (other brands are available) makes a nice montage for contents of photo folders if you want to share them (and a download all option for the person viewing...). All in all making my life easier... :)

Now if it were able to mark these 8 essays for me before 4:15 so I could go to the pub....

I've also been beta testing Bitcasa (which promised unlimited backup...)

BitCasa still offering unlimited storage (currently free, but due to change "Starting in early 2013, Bitcasa will remain free up to 10 GB, or $10/month for infinite storage.")

So Google have given me free cloud storage for 20,000 songs, which frees up space elsewhere nicely. Presumably this is a loss-leading ruse to try to sleepwalk me into using an iTunes style music player which is actually a shop?
