I've just started bouldering (if you can call it that) at the Mile End Wall in east London. Where is the nearest outdoor bouldering to Essex/London which is suitable for beginners like me?

Cheers for any help,

K

I've heard that mentioned several times but where is it exactly? Everywhere refers to it like everyone should know where it is.

Is there a website which maps climbing locations over the UK? I'm a map boffin by profession so I always prefer maps when looking up locations for things, rather than lists of places which don't immediately show where the places are!

Thanks,

K

Cheers.

There was me thinking "Southern Sandstone" was a single site. Doh!
That is a pretty useful database with a good postcode search engine ...

which brings me onto my next newbie question regarding grades.

After say 1/2 day tuition for a person of average ability what's the highest  grade would they be likely to conquer? B3?

Impossible to say really - a mate of mine did a slabby b5 on his first trip out in borrowed boots, and I guess there's some who'd do much harder stuff. Equally, I've been out with people who are fit and strong in other things but have been pretty useless on rock.

Don't worry about the numbers anyway, just have fun  :D
