Chris maybe someone found them and didn't think people should be stashing pads in the mountains just to make a long walk-in a bit easier. I'm guessing if they found them then they can't have been that well hidden. They could have taken em to make a point. You know, those "leave only footprints" low-impact wankers.

Come on this is ridiculous.

My goodness, what a kerfuffle

I can see where you lot are coming from about the use of certain language, but to want to logpile a topic that is genuine is a bit odd.

It sounds most like a climber took it, since they selected the best pad to misappropriate. I remember a few years back folk in the highlands having gear nicked out their tent and it was definitely by fellow climbers, since the bottom of the tent was torn up by crampons.

I used to write my name on my pads in permenant marker, just in case. Bit late for that kind of advice  :sorry:

Its nice to think of climbers as a higher moral breed but its not the case. In the last year I've had a pad, quickdraws and insitu lower off clips from some a55 stuff nicked.depressing, really depressing!

I blame climbing walls for introducing the rabble to the former pursuit of gentlemen. The scoundrels!

I used to think like that too, but there's a nice cross section of all walks of life partaking in the bloddering and climbing.

The main thing is if it was climbers that you are quite likely to bump into the offending party  :boxing:

Hope someone feels guilty and hands it in somewhere for you Chris.
Or preferably you catch someone out with it and they receive the deserved cuff.
And while i'm at it i'm pretty fed up with all this defending of pickeys. Firstly it was used in tongue in cheek way and was not nasty to travellers per say, i don't believe any that i know would be offended. I know a fair few travellers from accross the spectrum and am sorry to say the majority wouldn't hesitate to rob off any one other than there granny. On the whole the stereotype is pretty well deserved.

im sorry but i wouldnt ever consider leaving something like a pad in the middle of knowhere, its just tempting fate which has happened in this case.dont see as it can be theft though when things are seemingly abandoned.maybe not abandoned to climbers but maybe to others.the climbing sites are awash with tales like this(minus the language) so i dont get why people risk it,i wouldnt.
