Considering buying a Canon 550d
March 12, 2012, 04:17:51 pm
Have wanted a dslr for a while now. I have use a Canon G11 for the last two years (took the photos in the guide with it) but I think I have outgrown it. I need a faster frame rate, depth of field and a wide lens.

Is there any reason not to go with a 550d? Saw one at the weekend and was very impressed, the photos had a great quality to them, miles above the G11. Any ideas where I might find a cheap new one?

Not sure if you'll get hit with import tax (or avoid if so by delivery to a friend in UK & pick up in person), but Camera Price Buster saves you having to visit lots of different sites to check prices.

Second hand. Ffordes, Harrisons etc.

Take a look through the something for the holiday thread and read about mirrorless cameras. If you're going for a crop sensor (like the 550d, which I owned and loved) why take the extra bulk of the body and lenses rather than something much much smaller?

As you can get the same sensor size and relatively quick lenses you'll be capable of shallow DoF shots (a lot more so than your G series).
