Newbie stuck in a rut
February 07, 2012, 10:03:07 pm
Well unsuprisingly my first post is one for advice

I have been bouldering twice a week for the last 5weeks and I have done well (in my head) to each up to a problem level 4/6  :2thumbsup: but I am not struggling to get any better due to the face I can seem to start low. Every time I need to start from a crouch or lower I lose all sense of balance and strength.

So what do I need to do to get out this rut? is there any type of training or technique that would help me?
I have been trying to get wall time in but I am just getting my self annoyed and thats not helping any one

Cheers

Webbie  :beer2:

Practice sit/low starts and you'll get better at them. There are knacks/tricks for doing them and it often depends upon your height/strength/flexibility. I'm lanky and find SS hard, but practice does make them easier...

Try watching others doing them, often there are ways (side on to the wall or legs spread like frogs legs) to make low starts easier.

Bottom line is sit starts are a bit of a sideshow in bouldering. I wouldn't worry about them too much - topping out is what gives you that warm glow, not starting off your arse.

There are ways and means, improving hip flexibility is one & improving core strength is another. But like others have said, they are a modern quirk which has been more popular of late, best leave it for a few moths at least before you start fretting about them.

Have you climbed outside much? Once you spend some time on real rock you will realise they aren't that important.

I hate to be the butt of negative comments, but poor bpuns about sit starts are beneath me - they are way behind me. Far far away in fact, as far as pluto or uranus. Though what you said started to ring true, but it might not be the hole story. Anyway, thats enough, this subject is beneath me.

Are Arsenal playing this weekend?
