Oh, and climbing or non climbing. Just whatever are the favourites.

Nice idea Adam.

Didn't take loads of climbing pics, but was really pleased with these, as I had the idea in mind for a long time, and a golden opportunity to get them cropped up.

Could probably tease a bit more out of the RAW files with photoshop, just not got round to it.

October Dawnie

Apologies for low quality FB resolution.

Superb idea. I suspect these will be put to shame by everyone else... No climbing - and oddly for me they all have people in them!

Catching snow flakes (its totally opportune - a video still from the Ifern last January... but I love the blurry movement :) )

David Mason climbing The Pride. Really happy with the light in this one.

Ned on Samson

Scott Gibson climbing in Rocklands. Usually I shy away from using flash, but for once I'm pretty happy with the outcome...

My favourite of the year. Hopefully you're not sick to death of seeing it. Sorry! I'd definitely like to take more photos next year, when my camera won't be as occupied with taking videos :)

Some great pics in this thread. Here's my contribution. Comments/critique always welcome.

A couple from Nepal in April:

Shopkeeper on Freak Street, Kathmandu:

Sunrise over Dhaulagiri, taken from Poon Hill:

Back to the Peak in early summer - Joe on "What would Jerry do?", Blackwell Dale:

A couple from the Alps in late summer - panorama from the Envers hut just after sunset, taken the evening before we did Grepon mer de Glace:

Robin on the top of the Frendo Spur after a night with no sleep in a thunderstorm - four inches of loose, wet snow over hard ice:

Must shoot more this year, and be less lazy about editing and putting photos up. I've got at leat 4 years worth of backlog (mostly the log part) that I need to dredge though, edit and put up somewhere...

They're all great - though the "What would Jerry do" stands out for me - beacuse you've managed to get some colour, depth and interest to peak lime - which normally looks really bland and seems to be incredibly finicky to get right.. I'm not a huge fan of the composition (sorry!) but colour/light is superb...

Like it like that.
I think a crop would leave the weed/rock unbalanced and I like the way the two arms of growth point to the subject.

I couldn't get it down to less than 10, but then I did. Just. In chronological order

Home Sweet Home - the residencia at La Silla observatory, Chile

Nemesis - Dobbin gurning for the camera. Bennett on a rope acting as voice activated light stand.

Wee Timorous Beastie - poor thing was hiding from our cat. Took this, then saved the wee mite.

GranTeCan - the
world's largest optical telescope, on La Palma. Love the light on this.

La Palma Caldera - summers on La Palma are amazing. Light pollution from Little El Hierro in the distance.

Predator - the missus does good. Nice to have some pics. So proud of her.

The Wall - a non climbing weekend turns out to be fun. Bit of a shock.

Party Time! - a photo that combines my love of photography and tinkering with electronics...

I love the party popper one too, how did you set that up?

This is a great idea for a thread! I nearly deleted that blog post as well, it had sat half finished for so long...

Perhaps not the best shot ever, but I got a lot of satisfaction from absolutely nailing the composition on this one.

I've got loads of dyno shots, but none that quite capture the focus like this one.

Shot on commission for VG's walking guide, nice to pull a keeper out of a frantic schedule.

What bouldering is all about for me. At the time I'd have preferred the photographer wasn't there, but now I think he completes it.

Yeah, would like some more details on that. Sound trigger on flashes? Messed around with some maplins kits years ago doing this stuff, it was rather tedious on film. Would be keen to revisit, I get the impression gear and prices have come on a long way...

Yeah, like you've guessed, a sound trigger on flashes. I built my own based upon the plans found here. It can trigger cameras or two flashes based on a range of triggers from sound, pressure, light or a laser barrier etc. If anyone wants to borrow it they're welcome.

The caldera one is a long exposure tracking the skies with a barn door mount (astrotrac.com). Was hard to get the stars to come through so well and the landscape sharp enough. This is a fudge in the end, splicing the foreground from a single image into a stack of 4 images for the stars.

The Rib, Burbage South. Its not the style I usually aspire too but its one where you think it'd be hard to improve on it.

Be well keen to have a play with the trigger. Been trying to get a decent light barrier set-up working for years, for bird photos.

Its a bit irrelevant to yourself but Canon peeps can take a look at Magic Lantern for this. They've added a trap focus feature. I haven't had chance (or reason) to use it but everything else of theirs I've used has generally been great (racking focus, focus stacking etc.).

There are a few people who seem to use it for hummingbirds on a feeder with flash steup.

Nikon already have this built in, though its not promoted much. Its nowhere near sensitive or fast enough for the kind of photography I want to do. I guess hummingbirds are fairly stationary whilst feeding.

I haven't done any focus stacking yet but I thought the accepted wisdom was to move the camera on a rack not the focus, to avoid changing the image size.

Ta. Quite a crazy place. I found the Bedoin route a complete arsehole - like a complete arsehole, it was densely forested, horridly sweaty and with lots of nasty big black flies circulating. The open top slopes were in comparison, well-waxed and gleaming with a nice breeze...

No apologies for the quality of the pics - they are a few of the better pics from the Team Slovenia trip last year.

Really got away with this pic - Jernej just blitzed this on a rest day so it was a total point and shoot and the HUGE dirty smudge on the camera lens is almost hidden...

Jakob's fingers resembled some really badly made sausages by this point (five days on maybe?) and failed on the flash due to not being able to feel the holds!  :( Sat back down on the mat after his failed attempt and slowly peeled the miles of finger tape off his fingers and then looked me in the eyes and said "This is for Cratcliffe" and pissed it. Possibly the highlight of having Team Slovenia round my house.

I just love the angles on this pic.

I am as certain as I can be that those tick marks were already there Dave! He did miss the final hold though (repeatedly) - fuck knows how...  :'(
