DVD Ripping
April 26, 2012, 10:09:19 pm
Word up,

Got a mate in prison who's looking to, you know, back up his DVD collection to keep him company during those long cold nights of bang up.

Anyone got any recommendations for summat free, relatively idiot-proof that he can use to rip his shit so that his shorty don't have to keep smuggling the discs into the big house baked in a cake?

Cheers word.

have used DVDfab previously which is pretty good.
Haven't done anything with a DVD for years now tho, its usually much quicker to download it

I heard from my mate in Barlinnie that using DVD Shrink and CSS Region Free works well. Been a while though.

Look no further than Handbrake, free open-source and useful for transcoding too as PaulB points out.  Also rips Blu-Rays.

I've been turning all my dvds into mp4 to store on an external hard drive.  I use DVDFab which is suppose to decrypt the DVD followed by Handbrake to convert the main movie into mp4, paint by numbers: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/13516/convert-dvd-to-mp4-h.264-with-hd-decrypter-and-handbrake/
