Josh T Pearson - Last of the Country Gentlemen (hands down winner)

Forgot about that one!  I read a preview but it was a few weeks pre-release and I forgot all about it. Just downloading now.  :2thumbsup:

This is great. I wondered what happened to Lift to Experience.

What Andy said - JTP all the way.

You gents missed out not being at green man for josh back in august.

Jas - good shout, I'd forgotten about the new Go! Team, must acquire.

Not 2011 but Iron and Wine - The Shepherds Dog has been what I've discovered and listened to most this year, despite being mildly disappointed by the live set I saw.

Duma, seen him twice since then - End of the Road in Sept and Royal Northern College of Music last month. Better every time. Impeccable acoustics at RNCM allowed a whole new dimension to come out.

The Wild Beasts - Smother
Ghostpoet - Peanut Blues....
Jamie XX & GSH - We're new here
PJ Harvey - Let england Shake

would all be on mine; undecided about DJ Shadow, I can't help thinking its not a patch on entroducing...
The Foos, some amazing songs, but not totally sold on how good an album it is as a whole yet.
Liked the Guillemots offering as well (but was that released last year?)

Walk the River was definitely this year.

And DJ Shadow; judge on current merit not against previous form :)

I've just been reading DiS's top 5 of 2011:

5. Kate Bush: 50 Words for Snow
4. Sbtrkt: Sbtrkt
3. PJ Harvey: Let England Shake
2. Tim Hecker: Ravendeath 1972
1. Antlers: Burst Apart.

Has anyone listened to #2 or #1? I've not yet.

On a neo-R n' B tip, I'd like to put a shout in for "The Dream" (AKA Terius Nash)'s "1977".

Innovative, fresh...voted top album of 2011 by http://www.southernhospitality.co.uk/blog/ ...and released as a free download.

Cop it here:

Some great selections on here folks. Plenty to add to the Spotify playlist.

I've not listened to much new music this year but these stood out for me, particularly the Ryan Adams album which was a real grower.

The Streets - Computers and Blues
Ryan Adams - Ashes and Fire (just a lovely warm country tinged album)
The Vaccines - What Did You Expect From.. (great noisy pop)
Fen - Epoch (brooding East Anglian black metal)
Jill Scott - The Light of the Sun (uplifting soul)
Buika - En me Piel (a surprise one after watching Almodovar's new film)

Dug out from the archives, Adam and the Ants' Dirk Wears White Sox has had lots of playings.

F*cling hell, the Bon Iver album is amazing. SO much bigger and braver than the previous two. Just wow!

Not been with it enough to hear much

Ghostpoet was a definite winner, only other bit of listening was Emancipator whose album "safe in the steep cliffs" is a nice electronic with some strings chillout sort of thing.

Also discovered a youth i used to know is doing stuff under the moniker www.Wilderthorn.com no solo stuff yet, but he was on the last nitin sawney albulm.

Nero - Welcome Reality. Turned dubstep from a gimmicky crock of shite into a new and exciting genre of music. I'd argue a strong case for Guilt being the song of 2011 too!  :worms:

Shame on me but I don't think I've listened to much stuff that was released in 2011, although I did recently discover Frank Turner & England Keep my Bones. Particularly enjoying this track:

Nero is pop with some wobbly bass tacked on - dubpop?

Nothing wrong with Dubstep as it was it's now just everyone has fully leaped onto the bandwagon. Just as most pop records for the last god knows how long have had a dreadful dance/Trance remix tagged on, this will now happen with Dubstep.

King Creosote and John Hopkins - Diamond Mine
If you didn't catch it there was a really nice 6music thing chatting to KC & JH about making this, how it came about, the tracks etc

Admittedly it was released at the the tail end of 2010 but I didn't hear it until the start of 2011 and I had it on replay for a long time, John Roberts - Glass Eights. Deep, brilliant.
