Brush for an extendable stick
November 10, 2011, 04:24:03 pm
I am trying to construct the above and already have an extendi stick with an adjustable head. I am trying to find a large-ish brush to screw/glue/tape to the end of it (i.e. bigger than a lapis brush). Have seen a few shoe brushes but most of them are too soft, but most of the synthetic plastic ones for cleaning dishes seem too abrasive for rock.

Has anyone used or come across something that would be appropriate?

  • Largely broken. Obsolete spares and scrap only.

Check out the "betterware" catalogue.
No.
Seriously.
They even do scrubbing brushes on extenders.
And you could glue the "silicone pan scrubber" on to the back...

Have a look at the brushes that are sold to clean alloy wheels (and grill/spoke etc) on cars - softish, long bristles, cheap, bendable (wire core), surround bristle 5.1 technology etc

I made a brush-on-a-stick for Jasper using one of these, but since he doesn't climb he won't be able to give feedback

The local BP garage sells a model with a hollow handle ideal for sticking over the end of a pole.

I use a natural bristle shoe brush ~£4 from Timpson.  They might appear too soft but work very well in practice - like a giant lapis brush (presumably the efficacy of "soft" bristile, compared to stiffer nylon brushes is something to with static repulsion?).

I just assumed that naturalbristles have some microscopic surface features that hook on to chalk particles.

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up using something similar to Moose's suggestion.

It works a treat notwithstanding that I have been mostly broken since I got it.
