Woody on Side of house
March 24, 2004, 07:59:56 pm
Has anyone here mounted a Woody(training board) on the side of a house? Thinking about make a small one and bolting it to side of my house or my concrete shed. Whats the best way to attach a woodie and is there anything I need to check about if the wall will be able to take the load?

Cheers,

Danielb

if the walls holding up the side of your house, i'd say it should be strong enough to attatch a woody. For fixing I'd use rawl plugs and coach screws and try and get them in the brick and not the morter (altho not that important on an exterior wall).
I'm thinking of doing similar behind my garage altho my garage is falling to bits so will probably need a new garage first

Seen some photos of houses with bolt ons straight into the brickwork - just make sure your local burglars aren't strong as fuck....

Good point about burglers, maybe the side of the shed is a better idea. I doubt the OAPs up stairs would be impressed by 'visitors'...

Anyone tried to make a board like this one?

yeah, my brother for an a-level cdt project put a load of boards on the house with bolt ons.
fixed vertical wooden brackets to the wall (drilled into brick is crucial). then put ply pannels on them.
trouble with this is that when the weather was good enough to use it we wanted to be out at the crag, the boards were therefor removed by the old man and used as spot boards for cement mixing.
insted, we are building 45 degree and a 30 degree boards inside the garage in the summer.
(get to know a builder, they can get you much cheepness down the merchants  :D )

My problem is I have no space for a wall inside, the best I could hope for is a fingerboard with some holds mounted above it. As I only have 1 place in my house where I could mount the board. As the rest of my walls are plasterboard :(

Think a better option might just be a bouldering mat, but the local bouldering is not great either...

A fingerboard is better than nothing, and combined with one of those door frame pullup bars you can still do effective training. Not as much fun as a woodie though I guess.

I was thinking I probably have enough space to put a micro board (1ftx3ft) above the fingerboard to make a mini wood I could do feet off problems on.

What about a free standing board in your garden?

Could do...

I had not thought of that, will need to look into that option. Need to take down some of the hedge anyway as it blocking too much light as it is...

I'm planning to build a free standing one in my garden (been saying that for more than a year!). I've spent mony on holds and t-nuts so I better get to it soon!
