Western Edges Today
November 05, 2011, 06:11:19 pm
Anyone go to the Roaches today, what were the conditions like?

Thinking of going tomorrow but it's a long way to go (3 hours drive) if there's a risk of bad conditions. Forecast is for fog and mist at the moment, silly question perhaps but does that usually ruin the friction?

Cheers!

Roaches was sound this evening if a little damp in the back of the cracks. LOADS of punters about too, don't expect solitude! Forecast looks okay, its valley fog rather than hill fog so shouldn't be a problem... might even be an inversion.

Cool, thanks for the info. My meteorology isn't sound so I'll hope that an inversion is a good thing, unless you meant invasion?  ;)

I was there too with Galpinos and Brian and it turned good later on.  Some Uni club or clubs were out in force so as JB so expect to be dismayed...

Where were you? Had a wander round the clouds with the camera, then a little solo on the great slab at sunset.

Yes, an inversion is a good thing. You'll know about it if there is one.

Thanks for the advice. It was a beautiful, clear day but very hot in the sun..

Hopefully it'll be cold, dry and cloudy next weekend!

That's the day I did C3PO.  Climbed in a t-shirt above the inversion and I think I spoke to the lads who took those photos.  Hen Cloud looked like something in Patagonia emerging from the cloud.  Later on I went down into the freezing fog and spent an hour attempting the problem only to succeed as the sun went down and the crag emerged from the fog above me, glowing orange like hot stones in a fire.  An amazing sight.

Sounds amazing! Was back yesterday, wouldn't call it 'very hot' but it was pleasant in the sun.

Well I was sweating in the sun and I run cold!

The arete on Tetris was hot (warm) to touch but it was conforting to see Alex Pucio finding the conditions shit too, so it wasn't just me..

Ah, did bump into you then. Tetris isn't worth the bother unless its freezing. Good nick on Milky Buttons though!

Were you one of the people having a crack at the traverse after hard arete?

I heard someone shout that they'd done Milky Buttons, I didn't like the look of those dirty crimps..

Dried up nicely again this afternoon on the Upper Tier, still some dampness around but arms and skin gave up before we ran out of dry rock.

Cool, thanks guys.

I've had to bail on the Peak this weekend after the damage the grit did to my skin last week. Local limestone for me!

This is a useful tool for Staffs conditions. Not tempting me at the moment, though...

Wierd drive over - holes in the cloud and blue sky round Hassop etc. Going over Morridge from Longnor things got worse all the way to the Winking man, then BOOM - blue skies, sun, breeze and dry rock.
