i can say that the first volume took 1.5 years between the time when they started looking for translators to when it was out on the shelf...

Is the volume 1 any good? Out in Font at the mo with both the original godoffe bleau guide, plus his off piste one. Man they are bobbins. Wish Bart wotsit would do a 5s + 6s to complement the 7s and 8s. With traverses (for the wife) and baby friendly icons...

volume 1 is good but only covers the northern areas of cuvier, apremont, rocher canon/st germain and the franchard areas so not much good if you want to go to elephant or buthiers.also the grades are quite stiff, some of the 7c's on bleau.info are 7b in this guide!!

the 1 is nice to have as the photo format works well and it has nice pics/texts.

drawbacks:
-a few mistakes (eg line a gets the name and grade of line b) or odd grades.
-maps are a big step behind 7+8 and even a tad worse than the old off-piste godoffe. But that's somehow compensated by the pic-based format.

overall i can't really say it's up to how you like your guidebooks. I currently own no guidebook but if i had to i'd go for 7+8, being quite a map geek  :)
(it also depends on whether or not you have an iphone to check line and starting holds on bleau.info???)

yeah the line of paye ton cafe at cruisiniere is actually pas cool.
i agree that the 7+8 is better map based but as you say,the photo's make up for alot especially as the 7+8 can be confusing sometimes if you dont know the boulder.
