Scotland's Greatest Album
October 13, 2011, 11:20:31 am
I suspect most of the non-Alba residents haven't seen this, must admit I quite like the idea.

Hard to vote for just 3 from 80s ones though.

Anything from Mogwai, Boards of Canada and Idlewild gets my vote.

Have to wait for next week and the week after for those Andy. And would be surprised if BoC get a look in.

This, without any doubt.

I can't think of many Scottish acts I like apart from Alestorm and Scott Brown???

Hopefully Teenage Fanclub's Grand Prix will be in the mix for the 90s.

I expect Alestorm will be ousted in favour of Biffy Clyro.

Belle and Sebastian should definitely be in there. Even if they aren't your cup of tea, they have an impressive track record and a amazingly dedicated following.

I'd take Jesus and Mary Chain and Glasvegas over any of the above.

Belle and Sebastian and Glasvegas won't feature yet, they've only done 70s & 80s.

And I doubt Aerogramme will get a mention either. Unfairly.

be nice to see Aberfeldy and El Presidente in it too, but again I have my doubts.

Runrig will probably feature. Sadly.

Another vote for Belle & Sebastian, probably Tigermilk. It would be good to see The Delgados and Malcolm Middleton get a mention too.

If you look at the link, it's singles from each decade to go into an album.

My own choices:
Mogwai - Young Team,
Urusei Yatsura - We are Urusei Yatsura
Ballboy - Club Anthems
Belle and Sebastian - Tigermilk
The Delgados - The Great Eastern (altho' I'm ambivalent on this one: I adored it on release, but on a recent listen I found it a bit overwrought).
only got a Jesus and Mary Chain best of but I suspect something like Psychocandy would be up there.

(frankly the "Scottish" designator is a bit irrelevant, only a GBYBE and Low album would be needed for it to be a favourites list, irrespective of origin).

I want Josef K

And

I want the shop assistants.

I am not impressed by the choice on the website.

maybe if I keep saying it's singles they are looking at, not albums, someone will actually listen.

Think I got the message that time. Not sure if they're singles or album tracks, but :-

Dry The Rain - Beta Band
American Trilogy - Delgados
Loaded - Primal Scream
Loneliness Shines - Malcolm Middleton
State We're In - Belle and Sebastian

The answer is in the link. The band were formed in Glasgow.

Quote
After failing in law at University College London, he later attended (but did not graduate from) the University of Glasgow, where he studied philosophy and English and met the other members of The Commotions.

I forgot about Arab Strap, they're Scottish aren't they? Thanks to the title of the Belle and Sebastian tune for reminding me about that.

Yup, 90s/00s though. Not many big singles either, so doubt they will feature.

Isn't Arab Strap the odds-on favourite in tomorrow's 2:45 at Haydock?
