Al Queada????
March 17, 2004, 08:09:01 am
Hello,
Did a problem on the front face of the stride yesturday (the face you see when you are walking across the fields when parked on the little back road).
It is a highball, hanging, slightly overhanging arete which looks amazing.
!!!BETA ALERT!!!   I pulled on, got left foot smearing and right foot toe hooking, reached a little pocket thing with right hand, matched feet, heel hooked left then slapped juggy flutings with left hand, got to jug and topped out.
Is this Al Queada or some other problem?
Cheers

James

Sounds very much like it's Al's thing - was it the left arete of the block?

Kim T also did this thinking it new. Funny how a line goes unnoticed for years then gets spotted by loads of people all at once. I have a personal belief that the boulder fairy periodically bestows class line upon us, or unblinds our eyes or something. How else could the peak keep throwing up good probs, i ask you?

yes this is the one and same  - although i feel a little unsure about name because i had to watch  young michael duffy send it first, in fine style,  having made the fatal mistake of taking a large group of friends up there supposedly to watch the little old fella send it!!........he then felt so embarressed that he never spoke to me again........youth of today hav no respect for their elders. (this was a couple of years back)
sorry if all you first ascensionists got excited since - tis a thing of upmost quality

What's the consensus on the grade then?

Never got anywhere on this myself, guess I must be technically dense :(

Exactly, the quality of the moves and the line makes is all that matters :D

V7/8ish? - it is a definite reach problem ie: you can get the small pocket with feet still on the good hold if you are tall - another move if not. the rest is pretty basic but scary - best with lots of spotters and pads.

hmmm, I think not, judging by the definite stump who wandered up it after me. Once he got his hands in the right place, that is.
