MTB frame angles
September 12, 2011, 02:04:20 pm
lots of reasons to have a slack bike...

some headsets offer adjustment, at  a price.

Check out this

or this
http://www.burgtec.co.uk/category/products/offset-shock-hardware/

for an elegant solution...

I'm gonna have a set... head angle should be -1 degree, BB about 9mm lower.

I got a set of these made in our factory.  It ended up taking abput 1/2 a degree of my head angle.  I wanted my bike slacker than this so ended up buying a new set of dropouts which knocked a degree off( i needed to change the hub axle spacing anyway), and also a works component headset which knocked 1.5 degrees off.

Current head angle ended up at 64, which seems about right. Another side effect was significantly lower bb height at 13.75"(was 14.5").  I had to spend a few rides smashing cranks and bash guard into rocks before i got used to it although the bike feels like it is on rails in bermed corners now!

my only issue is the bike has 175mm crank arms ( just bought it 2nd hand) & I usually have 165.

These off sets seen very desirable, the burgtec website chat is blazing with requests.... perhaps there is a little business opportunity here for you mate?

Yes they are very popular however, the problem is the sizing.  Each bike requires a different length and diameter, depending on the shock and mounting design.  For me to get things made in a cost effective manor i'd have to be producing at least 300-500 of each size.  We're tooled up for large batch/mass production on our CNC machines.  A job like this would probably be best suited to a small tool room lathe, which both the chap in Ireland and Burgtec have.

commencal supreme 6, DHX5, u turn domains 110 to 160 on hope pro2s with 729 rims.

if it werent for the weighty fork & road cassette it would be lighter  and as easy to climb as than my AM bike  :o Things have come on a bit in the last few years, I'm stunned by it's performance.

Gonna get me a AM cassette, winch up - fly down  8)
