Kielder 100
August 29, 2011, 11:19:08 pm
Anyone else doing the Kielder 100 mountain bike race next weekend?

I'm kind of looking forward to it now, I just hope the weather is ok, and that the midges aren't too voracious.

Good luck if you are.

How did you get on? I heard it was 'a bit wet' ;-)

Erm, yes, it was a bit on the damp side. 24 hours of solid rain.

The attrition rate was horrendous - 80% of starters dropped out due to either mechanicals, missing cut offs, or just sheer misery.

I made it round in 11.41, which was a lot longer than I'd hoped for, but on the bright side I got a higher place than I thought was possible as so many dropped out.

I had no back brake at all for the last 100km, and was on the metal on the front despite pad changes.

Congrats on your completion as, like you say, not many finished at all.  :clap2:

Were your pads sintered? That's crazy -- pretty much 4 sets used? I think I read your post in Singletrack, actually...

I was toying with the idea of competing this year actually but I failed to make my mind up in time. Part of me is glad but then, part of me is also gutted that I missed out. Are you entering again next year?

I'm thinking of entering Tour de Ben at the end of this month but we'll see.

Can't remember if they were sintered or not. I don't think it made much difference anyway.

If I enter next year then I'm not leaving Sheffield unless it's a good forecast!
