Duplicate threads
August 10, 2011, 09:40:55 am
Whilst I can see the logic in reporting
news
in the news section, if its just duplicating a blog post that is going to be
pulled into the
log pile
its unnecessary duplication. After all comments of congratulations and wadness could easily be added to the sucked-in blog-post, non?

But if someone wanted to flick back through News based on a vague recollection, they would have to look through all the Blog stuff instead.

There's a bit of an overlap in the blogs that are sucked in, some are purely about training, others about news/ascents, some about both.
Guess theres no easy solution, just seemed pointless that Doylo linked to his blog to report the news and then an hour later it was sucked in in full anyway.
I wish there were a way to completely ignore the blog pile from the "Show unread posts since last visit" link (beyond not reading them and then clicking on "Mark all threads read").

Surely knowing that the Blog Pile annoys you is the most compelling reason to leave things unchanged?

Maybe some people don't read every post on this forum or don't read blog posts? The example you gave deserves a news item no?
A new UK 8c+ does not go up very often and at a venue like LPT, if that does not deserve a news item what does? I think a title like "A new mega 8c+ at LPT!" will attract more people to read than "doylo 's blog" not offence meant to doylo.

I think Doylo needs an agent.

Not disputing the quality of any of the blogs (or lack thereof, but most that are pulled into the blog pile are high-quality and/or entertaining), thats a completely separate issue.

does it matter, no. If you're bothered by such things you spend too much time on here
It deserved its own news thread and i linked my blog report because it was the only thing online at the time. It then gets pulled up in the blog pile too but it's not really a big problem is it.
