'Searching for my cleanest dirty shirt' , always loved that line.
Been meaning to watch 'The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea' again for a while... not a brilliant film but unsettling and worth a look.

Kristofferson was a sometimes brillant songwriter.

I have not seen the movie, but I feel the same about the novel, not brilliant but certainly unsettling. The book also might get the prize for most creative/bisarre/cumbersome title in translation. (The original title is, as far as I can discern, "Afternoon's towing")

Would agree with all that jwi.
The cover of the copy I have has a brilliant illustration though!

KK songs feel like a part of my childhood and I used to get called Christofferson as a nickname at school.

We also seem to have missed the passing of Maggie Smith. I always admired how much restrained emotion she could convey, like a crumbling dam.

For those who knew Adam Pepper, there is a gathering at the Beer Engine in Sheffield this Saturday (12th October) between 12pm and 4pm.

Thanks Graeme. That clashes with a hospital appointment for a family member.. is there anything else planned do you know?

There's so much of her best work that happened in the 60's and 70's too, that won't be known by most people. Reading Kenneth Williams' diaries, you can see how impressed he was with her work, and they were pretty close.

Thanks Graeme, being down in London and I’m working this weekend so I won’t make it, but can you stick a twenty in the beer pump from me to raise a glass or two and message me your bank deets? Ta

Thanks Mike - do you have any more details? To be honest, I had no idea he was still alive. "Rock Climbers in Action in Snowdonia" revolutionised climbing photography.

This Instagram post seems to be the only place it’s been reported and, despite its LDNClimber vibe it is a genuine account.

Alex Salmond. Whatever the controversy, sad to see such a pivotal figure gone.

Maksym Petrenko, who came 3rd place in the world cup competition in Birmingham in 1999 among other podiums, died in battle in the Luhansk province of Ukraine.

As far as I understand, Petrenko was from the city of Luhansk, which was the centre of the Luhansk Region of Ukraine before the region was seized by para-military groups in 2014 --- proclaiming it a break-away state until 2022 when Russia annexed the region.

More trivially, I should likely have transcribed Максим to Maxim, but I noticed that it was written Maksym on Digital rock and on some social media posts, and even on French wikipedia. So I did that, but would have liked to verify with a linguist. Also the comp in Birmingham 1999 was a world championship, not a world cup. This is why professional journalisms costs a lot of money whereas you read this for free.

He was Maksym. I knew him vaguely from back in the day when he was competing but later we had contact as he was a route setter and hold manufacturer.

And he was from Lugansk not Luhansk (according to his email signature!).

Sad news.
