Do you recon (computers)

was thinking as needed to do all this but didn't want to push my computer too much:
could I, burn a DVD, rip a DVD, shrink a DVD and print a DVD cover at the same time or will my computer blow up

hmmm... i don't reckon it'll like you too much! Seems to be something about ripping stuff which mine don't like - i can edit video, compress video and do umpteen other things at the same time, but when i'm ripping a cd it won't even let me play music at the same time without kicking off!

you always had it with 1 gig ram or did it start with 512mb? mine's a 2.8 P4, but I've only got 512mb an was wondering if it would make a big difference upgrading...?

I built mine from scratch so I just bought 2 sticks of 512 ddr. it will make a difference when multitasking, especially if you got lots of stuff running in your task bar. You should have a spare slot or two on the motherboard so you can upgrade quite easily

Dunno - I wouldn't attempt all of that at once - I think everything bar the dvd burning would be fine though.

1 gig ram should be plenty unless you're doing some pretty intensive stuff.

I always try to keep the system as stable as possible whilst burning DVDs - with burning CDs it doesn't seem to matter but DVD burners seem much more sensitive.

That said, on my new pc which is much more powerful (AMD 2800+) it might not be a problem.

Give it a go and see, you're only going to make a coaster if it goes tits up.

Just take a few fans out as well - you also forgot to run a harddrive defragment, extract a couple of dvds from .rar files, and normalise some dj mixes at the same time. Dunno 'bout flames, but I reckon you could get some smoke.

Try rendering some really complicated 3d objects at the same time, and recieve null modem transfers at speeds exceeding the rated capacity of your serial port. That should help! Oh, and buy a 1000base NIC!

Apparently the burning of DVD's is really sensitive to timing, and if the 'puter is too busy with other stuff it will get its knickers in a twist.

I will buy you a pint if you can blow it up in this way! Once got a serial port to melt, but that was in a router.
