I Tunes help anyone?
September 05, 2012, 03:34:05 pm
I know i'm thick as shit  :shit: but i'm struggling to get my music into new I Tunes as it should be.  I tried drag and dropping my music files into Itunes but they all end up together in alphabetical order rather than seperated in their own folders with artist/album title etc... Can anyone tell me how i get my music into Itunes nice and oprganised like it should be? If i sync my Ipod to it now it'll all go tits up. Cheers

Isn't iTunes just showing you its own way of organising things on the front end.  In the background it stores everything in its own choice of database using the tags of artist/album/track/style to then present it as you expect on your iPod?

Regardless, if you've all your tunes on the copmuter anyway can't you just wipe the iPod and sync afresh?

You could be right, its just not set out like it was on ITunes on my old computer. I've got the music on my comp but struggling to import it with its own Album/artist etc.. Just worked out how to put all that in manually so should be able to sort it now. Cheers

Basically from what I understand they don't really like you to do this other than by using the backup feature (which you'd have needed to do on your old PC) or else they'd have made it pretty simple to pirate large quantities of music.

You 'should' be able to click File>Add Folder to Library and then point it at wherever your tunes now are. It can then pick up any data it can next time it connects to the internet and whatever is missing you can fill in by yourself (fun fun fun).

You can use File>Library>Organise to dictate whether it follows your file structure or its own. N.B. if it follows its own it can sometimes split songs 'featuring' others into individual folders which is a PITA.

All said and done, its nowhere near as bad as the original SonicStage by sony which you may have used in the past I recall.
