I've managed to do five pull ups on my middle finger on both hands on the beast maker is this getting me stronger than just dead hanging or am I risking injury?

assuming you are not training for a route that has multiple bilateral monos you can probably dispense with the pull up nonsense.  we are trying to train finger strength here, so isolate that with a static hang.  if they are getting easy (it sounds as if they are) add some weight or start working on your one armers.
