5.10 Dragon sizing vs. LS Miura
April 18, 2011, 11:03:47 am
Hello to all!
I've recently started browsing around this board, finding quite a few interesting and helpful topics. Now I need your help
So I see around here that most members are 5.10 users... At the moment my main shoes are La Sportiva Miura (lace-up). I LOVE THEM, but I want something more aggressive for bouldering. Having heard and read so many good reviews about the 5.10 Dragon shoes, I've decided I want to buy a pair. The only problem is that there aren't any stores around my area (I live at the moment in Zagreb, Croatia, but I go back home to Spain often) which carry five ten shoes, so I would have to order them online probably.
So here's the question:
with the following numbers given, what size should I order the 5.10 Dragon?
·Street shoe size - 42.5/43 (UK 8/8.5)
·La Sportiva Miura size - 39.5 (UK 6/6.5)
Thanks for the help!!
Cheers :beer2:a

Hello stefObb
This may be of some help:
http://info.rockrun.com/articles/rock-shoe-sizing-guide.html
although I wouldn't rely on just this.
I am an 8 (42) in street shoes, size 7 in anasazi velcroes and a 7.5 in dragons (very tight) for what its worth..

5.10 sizing isn't the most consistent, if you can you're best trying them on in a shop.

From what I've read in the topics I found about Dragon sizing, it seems like what would be most convenient to do is buy them the same size as my street shoes, or max half a size down.
I hate ordering shoes online, but when there's no other option, it seems like the thing to do.

I bought my Dragon online for that reason, but ended up sending them back and re-ordering a different size. Bit of a pain.

Hi Steff
I'm a 9 in regular shoes. 7.5 in Anasazi Velcro's and a 9 in dragons (tight but not excruciatingly tight)
Id go for either 1/2 size smaller or your own size.

Stef, most people buy Dragons around half a UK size down from street shoe* but also most people getting Dragons get other rock shoes a little tighter than you - I'd guess you should get UK8.
*Then again, we think they may have made Dragons bigger this year so maybe that will change.
(I'm UK8 street like you and have Dragons in UK7.5 but got into a UK7 that was delivered recently. I also have Katana laces in 38.5, Anasazi Velcro 6)

I use the exact same combo, I wear a 41 in Miuras and wear a UK 9.5 in Dragons which is my street size. I'd say that buying your street size is a solid bet for Dragons but there is the usual 5.10 sizing eccentricity, my new pair were noticably larger than previous 9.5s but not enough that I felt I needed something smaller. I found that a 9 was just extra pain with no real benefit.

Im exactly the same as you, Dragons in an 8.5 are tight but the right size for me so should work for you too. Hope this helps.
