Irish Bouldering Meet - this weekend
March 04, 2004, 10:12:40 pm
Myself, CJD, Katz and Gav Foster are all packed and ready to go tommorrow - anybody else from the Scotland - Northumberland - Lakes - Lancashire - Cheshire - Yorkshire - Peak - Bristol - Kent - Devon axis of smee-ville gonna join in the party?

Last minute ferry bookings are still available from Holyhead (only 2 1/2 hour drive from Sheffield!), and the forecast looks okay.

Should be a good crack.

Come on people - make those phone calls, fill a car and get over there.

Can't go anywhere today, and I reckon it's a bit far to go on the Saturday and come back the Sunday.
How much is the ferry out of interest? Last time I went Holyhead/Dublin it was really expensive.

I think it works out at about 50 sheets each (4 in a car).

Sorry to keep you waiting Dave, been busy moving office today.

The Irish meet was a riot. The weather was mostly crystal, the problems were excellent and the partying was absolutely full bore.

We climbed at Glendalough on Saturday and Glenmacnass on Sunday.

Most people had come from Dublin, but there were also teams from Galway and Belfast, and TH turned up with his mate from Bristol.

Loads of projects left to do, and quite a few got done over the weekend - although the two big lines in Glenmacnass that Katz was trying are still waiting. The Wow Prow is world class.

The North Wales lads will certainly be going back soon.

What can I say?  Absolutely bloody flippin brilliant!!  I don't think I'm ever going to go to Font again.

The locations were stunning.  The rock had more friction than super glue.  The locals were friendly.  The problems were excellent.  And I 1st ascented a rather tasty mantel for anyone who thinks they've got strong triceps.

I got a bit overexcited on the first day and trashed my skin, but by the third day I didn't have any feeling left in them anyway so still did plenty of stuff.  As Mr. Moffat would say, I'm a f*ckin amatuer, but I've learnt for next time.

Paz did take his huge rucksack, and another smaller rucksack.  I don't know what he had in them because I didn't even see him change his clothes.

If you're under 25 don't bother with Dan Dooley car rentals because they screwed us over nicely with a whole load of hidden charges.  Seems the cheapest way of doing it is to get a bus to Glendalough and camp there, you won't get bored with the bouldering.

I didn't get too many photos, but the ones I did get should give you some idea of the scale of this place, I'll get them to Bubba ASAP.

I sent them some time back, by uploading them.

You sent me an acknowledgement e-mail, and I've been very patient ever since.

They're of Mark Croxall and Lisa Rands at the Argentierre round of the world cup, and Jimbo Kimber and Myself bouldering up in the valley.

I can send them again pretty easily.

DGS - Thanks a lot guys, it was a 'right good' crack.  Eoin's photo's are superb quality.

Dave, you may have suspected this for a while but the rucksack is home to a small Phillipino boy who goes everywhere with me.  I don't like to talk about it on the internet in case I get in to trouble.   So shut your mouth or I'll bring it to Font.
