Titfield Thunderbolt
March 13, 2011, 07:49:05 pm
Tried this today very briefly, bad skin etc etc prevented awesomeness.

Basically, I can reach the good high LH sidepull from the floor.  Does this problem have specific starting holds that I'm lanking past, or is it simply a stand up problem for the wall?

I think when we did it we started RH on the chip and LH on that low good hold. Don't know if there's rules on it though. Good problem.

i started right hand on the chip and left hand on the lowest good bit(i cant get anywhere reaching the good bit from the ground),then step your left foot up and reach in to the good sidepull then straight for the top.i found usint the intermediate small crimp high up for right hand made it harder than keeping your right hand low.the sitter feels a fair bit harder to me as the good bit is beyond full stretch from the good foot hold but still possible i think.the stand up felt very soft for 7b to me

Thde chip was fiull of wet moss so I was using the ripple a foot to the left for my LH.  I seem to remember trying it once with Nik starting RH chikp and LH low good holsd as suggested.  Will have another look when it's dry.

Considering I could get to the sidepull without too much trouble but felt some way off being able to do the problem suggests that it wouldn't change the grade too much by being able to reach the sidepull from the floor.

it was originally done without the chip on chicken but its a good problem either way, i think the photo in the yorkshire guide has led people down this route. i start with my right hand gastoning the hold just below the one you get with your left. left foot out left in a pockety thing then pull on and cross through into the good hold. its a great problem though so get it done

Thanks Ru.  I had LF in the pocket out left.  Sounds like I started trying it by your method until I realised I could reach.

So, I'll head back sometime.  And I don't want any anti-lanky comments if I do it  :chair:

i wanted to do it without the chip but i ripped a big flapper after latching the right hand side of the finishing hold so didnt bother.i wont be able to use the chip for the sitter anyway.tip for ya GCW,hit the left side of the finishing hold, its not as violent on the skin :)

Lanky cheats.

How do you do it, Nemo?
I watched your vid of TomP on it, may try that outside edge trick.

Only seen it done using the chip, right foot on left heel on.
It's on my wish list but it's been wet a lot this winter.

Ignore Jon's beat for eveything, you have to be really strong and short to do it.

GC, I do it like everyone else I know. Left and right hand on the lower two sidepulls, LF in the low pocket thing, cross LH through to top sidepull, RF outside edge on the obvious foothold, RH out to the lower shit crimp (don't pull on it, this is only for balance and to open you up for the jump) and then point your knee perpendicular to the wall and spring for the top directly above you. A man of your reach/dyno ability shouldn't struggle.

Cheers, I was taking the higher edge and moving feet and falling off.  Although I was starting on LH good sidepull/ RH shit edge.  I will have a look next time I go.
