Anytime in May should be midge free and warm enough, April will be more hit and miss warmth wise, June more midge wise.

A good breeze and/or strong sun keeps them away though.

Having said that, I've only been there in September - but have climbed nearby in May.

I was there on the 16th and 22nd of May last year and it was perfect, no midges, not too hot nor too cold. No seepage either although it had rained between visits. If you're after the trad routes the Risk Business was climbed while I was there but Carnivore looked very dirty.

Another vote for May but luck of the draw with the weather - I finished Fated Path in a hailsorm last time I was there in May. Brilliant venue - Admission and Fated Path are the two to do - both brilliant!

Take mountain Bike if it's wet. Do the circuit on Rannoch Moor and see if you can miss the train back from Corrour Station.

What is the score with the Downhill you can see from the gondola going up the Nevis Range lift? Is the the world cup one?

It's used for WCs, but I think over the summer anyone daft enough can ride the Gondola and drop it. Doubt it would be open in May though.

Keen for Etive Slabs too.

Midges are more of an issue at Etive, it's a lot more low lying and pretty sheltered. Have been there in May and they were buzzing around at ground level, but due to a stiff breeze and bright sun they weren't getting airborne.

I've climbed on the Tunnel Walls in August. Don't think of going to the Etive Slabs at that time though.

Did have a very average day on the snow though Sunday. Not bad for Scottish standards. That's 4 days in Scotland this season, with a 50% ok'ish conditions rate.

You can roll most of the WC DH course if you're moderately proficient on a bike. There's a few sections on the upper part that are tricky at any speed.

I think I'll proably be going for another walking holiday up there again this year so would definitely be keen to meet up for a day's climbing and I'm sure Fi would be glad to be relieved of Gri Gri duties!

Ahhh.....

That will not have affected Pinch Direct. 

Etive is usually good from mid-April to mid-May then late Sept-October but can be in condition in February if you get a mild spell.

Made it yesterday and thought place was brilliant. Amazing rock. Not a midge in sight. Though day before was bad i heard. Incidently what were peoples thoughts at the time when cubby bolted here, being the only mountain crag with sports routes on it?

I think Uncertain Emotions refers to Cubby's feelings bout doing it. I think there was a bit of a hooha at the time and I think only because it was Cubby who did it that he got away with it.
