A refreshing take on music apps from XenoAmp  8)

Another look at Feedly today shows its massively improved with a cleaner UI and fast syncing, but MinimalReader (a whopping £0.64 for Pro) has nice widgets for your Reader.

Mobo player + Firefox have revolutionised the way I use my cheapo tablet:

Mobo Player - seems capable of hardware decoding almost anything, thus watching videos is a lot better than on a netbook for instance.

Firefix - my stock browser was seemingly slow. This isn't.

Got a HTC desire and although having rooted and moved stuff to SD card still had low internal memory. Downloaded S2E (free app) last wk, moved delvic cache and other stuff to SD and now have loads o'space. Was thinking of upgrading phone soon but probably won't now. Highly recommended.

This is rather cool...

PressureNet uses phones/tablets barometers to take the pressure, then visualise it overlaid on Google Maps (just look at overlays if your device doesn't have the necessary hardware).

(Read some article yesterday evening about how it has the potential to revolutionise local forecasting but can't find it now).

Carbon - App Sync and Backup from the author of ClockWorkMod (this doesn't require your phone to be rooted though).

Hi

i have a Samsung android mobular phone thing.

It's all googlified, and obstinately refuses to play vimeo videos.

Anything i can do about this?

Also, is there any way i can reroute its screen to my tv (and preferably my video recorder) through micro usb port etc? Bearing in mind my has a/v and scart sockets but nowt more modern.

Cheers

Tried the Vimeo app

Whether you can play to TV very much depends on the model.  The Galaxy SII can do this but you need an MHL adapter.

You're likely out of luck without rooting and installing a different version of Android.

There may be an application for downloading videos, not come across one myself though (but then I haven't looked).  Alternatively try searching for a website that will do this for you, there are plenty of those around.

When youtube videos are embedded my phone gives me the option to play them using android system or internet. If i choose internet it downloads it rather than playing it. I think this is a glitch though but very handy for the quality/ non quality threads on this site.

There are def android apps for downloading from youtube, otherwise do it the old fashioned way (although that requires using a computer)

There are several mesh network projects being developed on Android. They have serious potential for post-disaster operations and third world countries. On a more local level they could be dead handy for finding your mates in those Font areas with zero phone signal!  8)

Its was one of the thoughts behind enabling net access in the One Laptop Per Child project which sought to get cheap laptops to kids everywhere as it was the only way of achieving net access in countries without existing infrastructure.

is anyone using an SSH client that can save hosts and/or scripts? I'd like to setup a shutdown script for when the Raspberry Pi freezes during tinkering. All I need is:

SSH pi@192.168.0.50
Sudo halt

I guess the password needs to go in there somewhere too...
