This:

http://www.androidlost.com/

looks to be better than Where's My Droid.
You can turn on GPS remotely, via internet or another phone, plus loads of other stuff.
It all works on my wildfire.

How?

It was a change to Android itself that stopped apps having permission to change setting such as Gps ON/OFF, even google Navigation can't turn on the GPS remotely?

Tasker could do it but I never really understood how given the above.

It looks to be an official Google App - just installed it and it ties in with your Gmail account.

I don't know how but it does.
My Wildfire has Android 2.2.1. I've tested the GPS remote on/off from both another computer and my girlfriends phone.
I put the phone in the garden (so GPS would work properly) with wifi and GPS turned off and the ringer volume turned off. Then from my PC I remotely locked the phone so it required a pin number, turned on GPS, and emailed myself the position of my phone (3 times, all of which were very close). Then I turned GPS off again.
Lastly I made the phone give off a siren sound on max volume.

You can also view messages sent to or from the phone and calls made or recieved.
This does work as I've tested it.
Si.

aha it looks like they've realised the stupidity of their ways! I had where's my droid linked with a tasker profile which was all a bit epic.

Nice tipoff Simes!

Just discovered Quickpic after a recommendation from another forum I am on. Knocks spots off the Gallery app that comes with Android as the reviews state - highly recommended, would use again, A* and all that shizzle.

I can imagine.  ;)

Haven't had time to look at all the functions yet but I've already tidied up some unnecessary folders etc. Very nice app.

Is there an app that does the reverse, i.e. translate trash texts that I receive into something resembling a sentence?

Another SatNav Option sounds promising, particularly as it purports to be "live" and links in with things like Wikipedia's POI's.

Not tried it yet myself though.

Also, Google announced the ability to Download maps for areas that don't have data signals recently.

I've been reading books on my HTC for ages now, it's ace.  I shall check that out, although I generally prefer to get my e-books from other sources.

Anyone recommend a webradio app for Android? Or are they all much of a muchness? There are dozens of free ones. Not looking for one that does anythign specific, just a nice mix of music types, comedy etc.

Tune In Radio - I have to admit I have only installed it this morning but it looks good after doing a quick test listening to 5 Live.

Flip book for the iPad is great.  Syndicates content from news sites, Twitter, FB etc into a magazine style format.

Still finding Swype slightly freaky in its efficiency; must read my mind or something.

For surfers the non-official Magicseaweed app works better than the official one. On android at least, not sure about iPhone.
