Xmas presents 2010?
December 29, 2010, 08:14:02 pm
Word, so did anyone get owt decent for Xmas then?

For me, highlights were:

  • A fly framed pic of Brooklyn Bridge for my new crib (went to NYC on hols a few months back)
  • The Viz swearing dictionary (Das Krapital) from the missus
  • A NAS drive from my old man (though to be fair I bought it, he gave me the cash - I thought getting him to get the right one would be a mission)

Anyone else - or was it all woolly hats, thick socks and gloves?

A yearly season ticket for two of the local climbing walls (Thalkirchen and Gilching). Ticket covers two because they both belong to the German Alpine Club.

Already celebrated with a bouldering session at Thalkirchen on Christmas Day (while family were skating) but have had a stomach bug since.

There are other good walls in the area that the ticket doesn't cover (Boulderwelt, High East); will still pay full price to visit them from time to time, for the sake of variety in training and as a progress check.

300ft2 of climbing surface now installed with scope for more.

A new sport rope, a set of graduated filters for the camera to experiment with, and one of these new-fangled Sony reader things (saves me taking 3kg of books with me when I go away to work). Thumbs up all round!

I got a bunch of books, of which my favourite is this:

Not only a great retrospective of one our best rock photographer's most vital work, but an insightful read too - a great bunch of essays and interviews from just the right contributors. Recommended.

(I also got a Kindle, a book about weeds, a door knocker, some honey, a doner kebab pot noodle and some fridge magnets that are like 1970's weather forecast icons so I can do a daily forecast like Michael Fish)

Yeah, a Tokina 11-16mm ultra wide angle lens ... but I had to buy it myself!

Actual presents consisted mainly of sushi ginger, both home-made (mother-in-law) and commercial (wife). I think this may be some kind of esoteric Japanese joke.

And a dumping of Oriental powder.

I had a really huge amount of food luckily, but also:
- a new Samsung compact to film my successes on rock!
- the small Table Tennis net from Decathlon that can be placed on any surface;
- a globe light that is now my new bed light;
- "Into Thin Air".
should get something else in a few days.

Not tried it yet...

This is fucking gorgeous.  Only thing I've tried so far is 50/50 with normal olive oil for frying eggs, but its fucking delicious...

...next will be with balsamic vinegar & bread for dipping once I fully recover from cold/flu.

Other chilli stuff included 20 dried naga pods, bag of naga flakes, and some 1.5million SHU chilli oil (not too sure about this though!).

New cycling gloves, couple of gardening books and the rest was cash/cheques.

Treated myself to a ReadyNAS Duo 1 Tb (with free 1Tb to claim).

yep
i have had one before but this one was dead easy to set up.basically put the batteries in and screw the remote unit to the side of the shed.
although as i said above i've got another one thats stopped working.i have only tended to use it to see what the temp is outside as i'm miles away from any climbing so the forecast wouldn't be of that much use.

Alpkit Filo jacket in pedestrian Black  - I'm not brave enough for yellow!

I ended up getting one in Chili because they didn't have yellow in my size (XXL just right) and my wife thinks that red will look less tramp like when I have covered it in sheep shit, beer, vomit etc (she only has my 15 year old bright orange Rab reject to compare it to).

Also, a 24" monitor so I can watch pr0n myself films about wildlife in glorious HD as well as see what the fuck I am doing when editing videos. Many thanks to all the in laws and outlaws for their help in contributing to this :dance1:

I got 3 new hats - one that my mother-in-law's toy boy didn't want and one that my sister has embellished with a logo of a pint of lager and a starfish - the other one is is red.

I also got a multi-pack of M&S socks (I asked for S&M clothes). On the packaging it says that these socks are worn by Pentathlon Team GB and that they contain silver which kills germs and shit. In my book that trumps Accapi's claims. My feet already feel like they could out run Christopher Reeve (I mean before he actually died, obviously).

I got my usual Years Best Sci Fi Collection edited by Gardner Dozois, of course.

Also got some poetry, an electric toothbrush and a beard trimmer.

Best of all has been seeing my pregnant wife (who does not enjoy being pregnant at all) getting more and more joy from each present I gave her. YYFY!
