Whats the easiest and cheapest ways to heat a loft as I've got my board set up but its always just a bit to cold to keep warm.

Ideas welcome.

shed loads of insulation will be your best option as it will help retain heat coming up from the house, then once you've insulated every nook and crannie i'd opt for an oil filled radiator as once warm they retain heat very well and from experience they're much cheaper to run that electric radiators

It already has some insulation, it's just beacuse its a very high loft that heat is there its just 2ft above your head. Oil filled radiator hadn't thought of that, ill see if i can get one cheap.

I'd use a fan heater - blows the heat around rather than letting it ooze up from a radiator.

Cheaper to buy, but not cheaper in the long run. Depends if you want a quick blast of warmth or to keep it warm.

Get as much insulation in as you can.

Infiltration... can be up to 50% of heat loss from a building. No matter how much insulation you put in and how much heat you throw at it it'll still be cold. For all the hot gas that comes outta caleb :-) it still wont warm up id block the cracks and cut the drafts.

presumably you just want to heat the loft for when you go up there.
The oil filled rad will take too long to heat up.
You will be better with a fan heater or a camping gas tent heater.
The fan heater will be ££££ to run but is pretty instant and you will only need to run it for 10 mins before you start assuming you have managed to stop all the drafts and inulated fairly well.
The camping heater will take a bit longer to warm up but will probably be cheaper to run but you will need to keep a supply of gas in.
I'd probably go for the fan heater for instant, convenient heat IMO

I'd consider one of those halogen heaters for what you want. Cheap as chips to buy and you can direct the heat where you want it - at the climber / climbing area. They tend to heat the object in their line of fire rather than heating the air which can then float up and away from where you want it. You could point the heater in such a way that heats the climbers and not the holds.... now that's magic!

Plus, radiant heat is sexier than hot air.

in my little office at my workshop i have a halogen heater 1200w and a 3000w fan heater, the fan heater is good for getting it up to a warm temp and then the halogen heater seems to keep it there nicely.
