Brimham Conditions
December 04, 2010, 08:55:12 pm
Has anyone tried to get up to Brimham in the last couple of days? Just wondering on the state of the roads. Not expecting much of the climbing to be dry, but thought I'd go and brush the snow off the top of a few things before I head to Almscliff or Whitehouses (or the Depot). That way, it's likely to dry quicker over next week. Any knowledge greatly appreciated.

We were there today and all of the roads were fine- from Otley and Ripon. We brushed a couple of things, but mostly just wondered around aimlessly in the snow.

There's more dry/climbable there than I'd expected. All the usual suspects are OK (Joker's Wall, Happy Days), plus everything on Red Tape is climbable (but there's a patch of snow above the arete that will wet the holds when it starts melting).

The buttress to the left of Red Tape has a few short things to warm up on. Lost World traverse is fine, but there's a bit of ice around on the problem through the roof - probably still climbable as far as the jugs though. Also a couple of things round Lover's Leap that were climbable but topping out would be a mission.

The Niche was fine, but probably best avoided as the rock on the flake problems looked a bit damp and is fairly fragile anyway. A few things on the opposite side on the Castle were OK as well.

Didn't get over to Hare Heads to check out Crimpy Roof and Cyclops buttress.

Forecast is a pretty light breeze tomorrow which might not be ideal.

On Saturday it was ok for most of the day but got damp later on. Stuff in the (strong) wind was all good

Most things dry yesterday but we climbed in the sun predominantly, very little wind so anything shady was still a little damp.
