The finishing flake on Mark's Roof Left Hand at Gardoms made some hollow "I am only temporary" noises when I used it on Sunday morning.
I know it's been like this for some time, but this time I thought I could feel it vibrate as I grabbed it. It just felt/sounded worse than I remember.
I thought I'd mention this in case there are any other overweight loners who are going up to do it without any spotters. Lobbing off that ledge could be nasty.
I know that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death: and that participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions, but boulderers aren't that into the whole "death" thing, so I thought I'd ease my conscience by voicing my observations about the risks.
Think about leaving it alone if the inside of the flake is wet?
The holds lower down look more snappy, but at least a pad will save you from their failure.
Be safe out there
