I did chance it! Went to Doveholes which was a bit of a long shot given it's sheltered and soft rock, but I was prepared to about turn if it was too dodgy. Was actually in fine nick, had been sunny all morning so 90% dry. Bit warm for the slopers but pretty good fun.

good going! i did think by late morning today some places would be ok with how clear the sky was, although i imagine there will be a fair bit of seepage around.

I'm up north on Friday. Is Kyloe my best only choice since it's meant to be mild for a couple of days and snow will be melting? Does anyone know if the roads are clear?

And lastly, does the Northern Soul block at Hepburn take a while to dry? I can't remember what the tree coverage is like.

Thanks all.

Quite a few trees around northern soul, did you go? If yes, how was it? The main wall (from bad company to hitchhikers) at kyloe is good in pretty much any conditions.

I'll not be in the county in the next few weeks as i'm off to loch lomond so might have a session at dumbarton if the conditions there are any good, then the lakes a week later, so it'll be some fun on a dripping bowderstone.

Thanks benj_d. I decided not to risk it and just went for a walk up to Shaftoe, which was the wettest and iciest I've ever seen it, despite it being hella windy. I'll probably have a look up Hepburn next week so I'll report back if I do.

If Shaftoe is any kind of representation of conditions elsewhere then I'd say it'll be hard to find dry rock today.

Mr Savage has been around a few crags this last week, there's a thread on UKC.

"I can't go into any more details as I'm still traumatised, but as expected, to cut a long story short, there's nothing dry in Northumberland. "

was his comment about a trip to Simonside after the thaw set in.

LOL, Simonside wouldn't be my first choice at this time of year ;)

Was hoping today's sun/wind combo would do something but it doesn't sound that promising...

This too. I've heard of 3" west of newcastle, is the whole area blanketed?

Was at Kyloe on Sunday, most of the problems on the main wall are dry, except croach tiger as the water was running down the crack, but rock was feeling pretty damp.

Hepburn:

Mostly nice and dry today around the main area. However, if you are going for northern soul/prep h which most will be  ;D they were really damp friday gone.

Minty yesterday but miserable today. 1cm of slush/snow stuff right down to the beach. I would guess it will be a back bowden/ kyloe in day tomorrow.

not had the rain that the peak has had, just wind. Beautiful today and light winds, cant see why anywhere will be wet.
Queens will be bloody freezing though.

Cheers!

Everywhere was bloody freezing in the wind. Queens reported as "mildly moist" before the rain started there.

Ey oop,

Anyone got any idea how much snow is kicking about in Nhumberland at the mo? There was quite alot in a photo I saw of there the other day!

Prob be looking at Kyloe-in as a first choice, obviously this is in the trees, but would snow (if there is any!) affect it much?

Cheers

I was 10 miles from Kyloe today and there was only a dusting of snow on the hills, all the roads and lowland were clear. Shouldn't have affected the main area of Kyloe I'd have thought.
