Hi there,
I am a boulderer from Greece. Some German friends and myself opened most of the probs there. There about 600 probs and scope for thousands. The rock is not of hampi quality but it's one of Europe's best bouldering areas. The best season of course is winter(Greece is fucking hot in the summer). There is a very good guidebook at  www.gebro-verlag.de

Hi all I am considering going in November and am after some beta in particular in terms of costs, has anyone else been or is the advice still just

I have looked at the other threads and also http://www.gebro-verlag.de/blocheart/bouldern_E/EU/GR/Tinos.htm which seems to cover most stuff, the things I am still trying to find out are
  • is a hire care mandatory, it looks so, if so is it cheaper to get it in Athens and pay extra for the ferry or get it in Tinos and pay extra for the car
  • what are the cheap accom options and how much are they, will be just me and the gf and we are both veggy so either camping or self catering
  • where is it best to locate yourself on the island
  • what are the shops like for groceries/how expensive is it
  • can you hire a mat from anywhere, or failing that how easy/hard/expensive is it to take one with sleazyjet

I would say it's mandatory. The areas are pretty scattered & pretty remote. I guess there's nothing/no-one to stop you putting up a tent at Livada Beach where there's a stream ( no idea whether it's drinkable though) but then it's a thirty -odd minute drive to the nearest shop or bar.
Given that it will get dark early & I suspect be very cold in the evening that sounds like a nightmare to me.

I only noticed one campsite & that was shut except in summer  think

    • where is it best to locate yourself on the island
We stayed n the coast near  Tinos town (Chora) for access to shops & bars.
I like a bit of holiday in my climbing trips  :)

    • what are the shops like for groceries/how expensive is it
Good range in the small supermarket. Coffee was expensive (3 Euro I think )

    • can you hire a mat from anywhere

      Not that I saw
