You sound a bit overqualified to me. :)

It's all here but don't worry, some people never get the hang of it.....

Too true

This is probably a very very bad idea and will end up with me being mightily smoted.

I joined UKB and before i was aware of newbies advice, i mentioned another site which i now know must never be referenced in any form whatsoever.

I have tried to smite my karma but can't figure out how.

Would somebody please smite me 1 point.

I know i will probably be much smited, but in my defence-

i have added hopefully useful shizzle to the wiki,  i have passed on some good shit on someUKB freecycle, for which i got no + karma, and most importantly, i have tried to make friends with magpie with my cuteness quotient.

Regards

Morning!

I'm a long time lurker and occassional poster if I think I can be useful. I surf both sides of the channel (using the same username) as I'm a logbook geek! Over the years the gooDADadvice, good books and films threads have been a lifeline to me and the DFB has been regularly perused!

Does my services to Ron Fawcett fans mean I can avoid the bumming

Cheers all

 Hi again Whealibob

I am much more of a newbie than yourself, and am happy to report no bumming incidents yet!

But just in case, i now only climb at night in full camouflage, and never, never tell anyone at a crag that i post as Crimp.

My experiences so far- helpful, friendly, informed, good banter without overstepping the mark, well moderated, focussed forum. And best of all, i ain't been bummed!

I'll come clean and say I've lurked here for years. Better news I reckon and better meaty discussion / arguments - Simpson vs Heason ages ago, the Mick Ryan years and more recently enjoyed the asking for proof Gaskins thread a lot.
I'm near Bristol and have never lived in Sheffield.
My only claim to fame is that I climbed a lot with SA Chris when he was in Bristol due to us both being ex Leeds Uni CC. Not seen him in years mind... Hi Chris, its Sam here.

Only really got into it in final year - 97/98 and then two years after graduation but was out climbing in Yorkshire and the Peak for all of my time up there which was 95 to about 2001...

I did make it onto cover of the last LUMCC journal which was quite a moment!

Were you there too?

I'm afraid I'm bespeckled and don't have red hair! Think you might be confusing me with Chris Brown...

Anyway, I climbed a lot with Nibs and Toby, well equal parts climbing and smoking. Also with Jim (he was president one yr) and Ian, Nibs' bro.

I'm sure we've probably been in the same room under the influence either a house party, upstairs at the packhorse or at an annual dinner. I'm still in touch with Nibs et al. They are still either in Yorkshire or moved up to the Lakes.

I've been going to Dartmoor a lot lately to try and rekindle my love of the grit but it never seems to be quite as good. it certainly bites back a lot harder... Better than the Avon and Somerset bouldering though - absolutely dreadful.

I've just realised that I first signed up in 2006, that's over 6 years of lurking... Is that a record?!?

I'm officially coming out as a proper poster now so prepare yourself for lots of inane questions about esoteric southern Peak 7as that nobody has climbed since their first ascent (probably by Bonjoy - i.e. more like 7b!!!)  :tease:

You haven't actually got a car have you? I used to like the tors but too brutal on the skin for working aything too hard.

"I used to like the tors but too brutal on the skin for working aything too hard"

For that read, anything involving the use of the hands!

The first time i tried to climb a crack on Dartmoor i jumped off shouting why would anyone do that. I thought someone had lined the crack with cheese graters and filled the back of it with razor blades. I learnt tape up fingers and knuckles well, jump off don't slide off, and every time a new dartmoor guide comes out buy shares in germolene, elastoplast, and surgical tape.

Now when i want to flay my skin in a masochist fit, i just pick any crack at Huntsham. One in particular, a VS, rudacious rudolph i think, isn't so much a climb, more a feat of extraordinary pain endurance. Like trying to get a dozen very angry cats out from under a sofa with your bare hands. I finally got up it wearing heavy duty gardening gauntlets taped firmly to my wrists.

I never really had much of a problem on routes (only done about a dozen on the tors) but for bouldering it's brutal on the tips.

Rather embarrassingly I've got two cars (one is hanging on for dear life thougho) so no longer blagging lifts. Although I do miss your work boon of free petrol!

Think Dartmoor is often about long terms projects. You can only try certain things a couple of times so have to keep coming back to them. Finally bagged The Wave recently, that's taken years of effort but felt good when I got it. Went to Bell Tor recently too, small and perfectly formed.
