Sport Crags Near the M6
June 11, 2013, 03:19:04 pm
Hi there.

I am driving from Gloucester to Edinburgh on Friday and am hoping to break up the journey with a bit of bolt clipping. Can anyone recommend a crag not to far from the M6 or any other road along my journey. I am preferably looking for somewhere with routes from 6b to 8a ish, but any recommendations would be great.

Thanks

SA Chris

Depends what route you plan taking?

You go M6 as far as Preston, then cut through the Dales via M65 and some minor roads and it will taker you near to as much sport climbing as you would want; Malham, Gordale, Kilnsey, Giggleswick etc etc atc are all concentrated in that area (best route would be dependant on preference of crag) Then go A59 or something to A1 all the way to Edinburgh.

Or if you want to go M6 all the way up you can turn off onto A65 at Kirkby, head te Settle area(ish) find your crag of choice, climb, then get back on the M6 and carry on.

I agree with chapel head - get there whilst it's dry and there isn't a bird ban. Brilliant routes and really close to the M6!
