Is The Hub at Glentress history??
August 18, 2010, 11:18:28 am
I see the Forestry Commision is looking for firms to tender for the cafe and bike shop in the new visitor centre at Glentress:

http://www.forestry.gov.uk/glentress

So where does that leave Tracey and Emma?  The Hub has been there from the start and the girls have been crucial to the development of Glentress.  I'm guessing that one of the big firms, Alpine Bikes, Edinburgh Bike unco-operative or Evans, will pull out all the stops to win the tender and Glentress will go down the same road as Coed Y Brenin, just a soulless visitor centre with zerop atmosphere  :wall:

Fuckin' FC  :spank:

When we were there about a month ago, there were (at least) two huge timber frame buildings being built in the field to the west of the road up to the trails. Wonder if this is part of it? Shame if they get rid of part of Glentress's character. That's progress for you.

yeah, that's the new visitor centre Chris, ie, the usual soulless corporate bullshit that organisations like the FC simply can't resist.  Empire building basically and it reputedly cost £7m - how many trails would that build!?.  Not that they haven't got form.  At Coed y Brenin, they pushed out the existing independent shop when they upgraded the places.  It fuckin' stinks....  >:(

i'm pretty sure we sent them some MTB guides only a few weeks ago. Maybe they have to open up the tenders to everyone - inc Tracy and Emma - as is often the case with public sector shit?

They probably will have to let them tender, but they'll not win it against some corporate machine.

Yeah, it's the standard tendering bullshit - http://www.forestry.gov.uk/glentress - which, generally is an excuse to shit on the little guy from a great height while rewarding the big boys with a nice plum location.......

Well, that that's that then - Tracey and Emma are no more... BBC News

At least the two preferred bidders are local/bike focussed.

Let's just hope that Alpine Bikes Glentress is a bit less, how shall I put this, characterless than the Inners shop.  I always head for I-Cycles for choice.

http://www.i-cycles.co.uk/

Cool shop, nice kit and the guys who run it are real enthusiasts....

And you're basing that derogatory comment on what exactly?

Given this and you're nonsense posting on "Illegal use of Houndkirk" perhaps you should consider posting a bit earlier in the evening and when you're not  :alky: ?

Sorry, but you make no sense to me.  However since this is an open public forum you get to say whatever you wish.  I don't see what that has to do with me at all though.

I think the fact is that Glentress is a mountain biking centre in a forest, and the sexual preferences of the people who run it or frequent it is irrelevant and of no interest to anyone (other than perhaps yourself).

I was more concerned with your bringing ukb into disrepute rather than anyone's sexuality.

If I keep pressing these emoticons I'll get to the one I really want to use eventually.

I'm not a municipality of Belgium and no one needed to be bought up to speed because its irrelevant.

Well hijacked.  There's me thinking we were discussing the future of my favourite trail centre, but no, I'm wrong.  It's far more important for you to recycle some tired old rumours about the current owners of the bike shop.  Damn, you're just so radical man!!

Any passing mod who cares to lob this in the log pile, please do....... I'm with you Norton

Moderators have been asked to remove all my posts from this thread, and... its not a rumour. I have known them both along with Nicky Credland for ages.
