Deore caliper piston?
July 22, 2010, 11:01:52 am
Front disc-brake is knackered, the calliper piston is busted (well more the rubber seal appears to have disintigrated so when I went to change the pads the calliper piston itself fell out along with a gush of fluid).

Anyone got a spare kicking around?  Happy to remunerate in cash or beer.

Hoping to bag a second hand replacement for the whole lot on Flea-bay later day if I don't get out-bid (but its for the whole front brake system which is a bit of overkill, but would of course leave me with more spares).

Eh?  Buy a new seal and put the old piston back in?

Struggling to remember what I did with said piston.

Will have a rummage around over the weekend.

Tried searching for shimano spares on chainreactioncycles.com but most seem to be spares for avid or Hayes, and nothing for Shimano.  Going to have to do some research on sizes and find the right one.

Take it to Bike Tree?  You'll struggle to get decent spares from CRC for any brand.

Apparently Shimano don't do caliper seal kits so you'd have to find a third party seal. Probably cost a few pence if you can source the right size but I suspect it might be tricky identifying exactly what to buy.

Probably worth talking to a local bike shop to see what they say or they might even have some scrap lying about.

Tried Edinburgh Bicycle Co-operative and they said they'd order them in so even less hope on getting a seal.

Failed to get anywhere this weekend after climbing at Millstone Saturday and playing frisbee today, will get my arse in gear and check out Bike Tree (I suspect they'll be more helpful/useful than JE James).
