Hathersage Triathlon, anyone?
July 08, 2010, 11:06:27 pm
I know JFW is hopefully going to be fit for it, but anybody else on here taking part? Would be good to know any UKB race numbers to look out for.. I'm 225.

i'm loads better this week - but still got major indecision about whether to do 2 hours of racing - i'd like to think i would take it steady - but i know i would end up trying hard - so i have asked a mate if she wants the place - but still ....arg dunno - was properly ill - would normally wait 2 weeks before doing speed work - let alone race ??? - but i even got some tri shorts (which i was dead excited about)  :-[

gah that was hard work

01:36:48

rainy rainy rainy for us slow swimmers setting off early

combined swim and bike time 56:29 (full splits available later)

swim approx 12 minutes, so looks like 44ish for bike, then 38:30 for run

plus transition times

no idea how this rates overall but found the run really hard after biking - then put some effort in to the finish without realizing you had to run round the whole fecking field to the finish line  :'( how mean was that!?

Well, I quite enjoyed it after all.
1:37:01,
129th.
swim 9.15,
bike 49.49,
run 34.27.
I had rubbish transitions though, too much dicking around trying to get my longsleeve top/vest combo on/off. I found the run ok off the bike (speed walking up the steep bits), but then i did cycle rather slower than you...
I am quite keen for some fell runs after that, but could just be post run endophines overloading. Luckily I'm busy next weekend so cant enter the Great Hucklow run.
I think I might enter the Tatton Park Sprint Tri in sept, though the swim is 750m open water, which is a bit epic for a Sprint Tri....

Just realised: If I had been 2 seconds faster we could have had a UKB 127-128th! Now that would be something to be proud of.

I was also impressed by how much time I spent faffing in the transitions. Well lots to improve on for next year...

I was discussing doing this next year with a friend last night. How doable is it for a tragically unfit middle aged gent (with little knees)? Are there lots of very unfit shit "triathaletes" I'll be able to hide amongst?

I think you would be fine, after all you have quite a while to get a little ready for it. I think most people are worried about the swim, but with a heated pool and very civilised lane densities Hathersage has nothing to fear there..
Have a scroll the event pics below, I think you will find quite a few normal folk. Some people I saw setting of on the bike leg had panniers and jackets and everything. Unless he had just popped out to get the paper. Hmmm

Football is still in the planning stage. Trouble is with a fuckwit like me at the helm things aren't likely to happen quickly...
I'm off to the Isle of Man for a couple of weeks of inbreeding, upon my return I will sort it out.

Erm Sam I theoretically have the best part of twelve months to get fit, realistically however I will spend eleven and a half months of that scratching my arse (it gets very itchy) and the last coupleof weeks scrabbling around trying to borrow a bike off someone. But hey if there's dudes with panniers then I'm in.

five-a-side? Sounds good to me. All we need is an organised pro-active individual to sort it.  :smart:

I'm a bit too pregnant (5 months)!   :P Can swim and bike at the moment - but running has been no go from pretty early on.  Using the time to try master swimming crawl.

Are you more or less buoyant with a 5 month belly?

Looks like it is just me triathloning then....

It's full, you need to give people more notice if you want to watch them disappear into the distance...

I wasn't intending to encourage peeps to sign up in droves, rather attempting to see if anybody had signed up...

Nick, I hearby give notice that I intend to take part in the Tatton Park "Yule Yomp" 10km run on Dec 11th. Fancy that?

Anyone fancy a game of five-a-side? Me, Stallion, Plattsy, Uptown and Bammers will take on all-comers.

I'm not triathaloning this weekend as it is my sisters wedding, although I'm not triathaloning because my initial enthusiasm descended into the usual mass of arse scratching and contemplation that is my day-to-day life. I'd still like to do A triathalon at some point in my life but not this year, and probably not next year...

Is the Yule Yomp just a run then? Possibly, but given the heavily pregnant state of Mrs At Work at that time of year it's doubtful, so no.

I thought I'd posted a reply but clearly not......

I'd been considering a 10km so might be keen. What's your target time, I'll need to know how hard to train.....

Last year I did it in a surprising 44:45 and I'd like to do it faster this year. It is off road but not very hilly, more undulating.. It was a lovely bright clear frostly day last time, I'm SURE it will be same this year.
