Rocklands permits
July 07, 2010, 10:00:35 am
Anyone have any beta on whether you can get permits before arrival? I've been in touch with 'Wild' about purchasing a National Park 'cluster' and they said:
Good day
Thank you for your e-mail. Internationals may only purchase the Wild International All Clusters
Cape Cluster and other Clusters are only offered to SA residence.
Suzanne,
Wild Administration
All Clusters is massively expensive. What's the best thing to do? Just turn up and sort it in Clanswilliam. Or ask someone to get permits for you in advance?
We arrive on a Friday afternoon.

Pretty sure you can sort it when you get there. We did, but it was a few years ago, and never heard of such a thing as Clusters? Sounds like a bit of a cluster to me.
Where you staying?
You taking a sport rack too? Some great routes there.

Cool, yeah guess just sort when there. Slightly expecting it to be very busy.
Staying at Alpha Excelsior Farms.
Yeah, keep hearing there are some good sport routes. Not sure how keen the missus is though...

Nah, nothing like Peak or Font. Plus it's easy to crowdbust, just walk 15 mins.
Enjoy it, and stay off the witblitz.

Fab! Yes, it was indeed way quieter than I had expected. I didn't do one problem in 3 weeks where there was someone else working it/had pads below it. Every now and then, it would have been nice, like on this:

(Best problem I did there)
This day was the only day of really good conditions (following the only day of rain):

Generally it was super-warm for August, but that didn't bother us as there was plenty in the shade and generally the holds are good.
