Can someone advise on access please? Never been but keen to check it out.

I've looked at a few previous comments and it seems a bit tenuous as to weather access is permitted or not?

Officially you're not meant to climb/boulder there.

Wot dave said.

Its was the now deceased Earl of Scarborough who was concerned about liability issues.  It is also an SSSI so tread carefully and don't litter.

The heir to the title is a lot younger, and as far as I'm aware hasn't expressed any opinion either way (my friend works on the estate and lives above the National Trust gate house to the abbey itself, if you get asked to move on it'll likely be by him, but he's a nice guy and used to dabble in climbing himself whenever I dragged him out).

The offical line is NO CLIMBING HERE.

Although a few years back myself and others negotiated access for BOULDERING ONLY (and not topping out if soloing) with your mate slack-Line who told us he was the estate manager.

There are a few rules though

1. ONLY BOULDERING no ropes or topping out.
2. ONLY SMALL GROUPS if more than 4 people there or in your group go else where
3. NO SHOUTING WOOPING etc as it is an EH site and has lots of visitors (do not draw attention to yourselves)
and last but not least

4. THIS AREA SHOULD NOT BE PUBLISED IN MAGS OR VIA THE NET

please can the moderators lock or take down this article now as most peeps now the situation.

Cheers

Tony

I don't get the point in going to the length of posting all this info then asking for it to be immediately removed. Its all very well having these rules but if they aren't communicated to anyone then there's no point having them. People aren't telepathic.

He's got a point though, for once. cragx has a similar access agreement and the forum is coded to edit references. I'm not sure how it should be done here as Roche is a better known location. I think Tony's rules should be left on display with a 'no online topos or guides' rule. In this case, just acknowledging the site's existence is not publicising it.

I can lock this shit although obviously its bound to come up again and again. It really needs adding to the BMC access database, that would be the best place for it. Tony I recommend you get in touch with one of the peak area reps (henry?) and write them an updated entry for the RAD.
