Nice story Cheque - I spent yesterday evening listening to a load of Rawkus and other stuff I've not played for a long time. My GF had never heard any of it and it was nice to dig out the records and give them a whirl.

Well indeed this is something pretty different and rather cool imo. Warning it is a "bit" heavy!

Crikey - haven't heard that in years, good stuff. If you like that one (and haven't already) you should give their gutter tactics a go. Same vein but a bit tighter and a 'bit' less heavy. They have a new album out shortly I believe but with different line-up.

Much less serious but similar sound is he second New Kingdom album, especially the second half . . .

Aye I'll give that a look. Never heard of them before. A Russian friend in a gaming channel I visit recommended them - he's a black/doom metal fan.

So someone's unearthed a lost J-Dilla mixtape recorded at some point 1999/2000ish.

Interesting listen, even if the sound quality is very "TDK C90" - some classics on there and shows a bit of where he was getting inspiration from:

Oh, and I discovered a quick Google of "Soundcloud downloader" may help those of you fancying an MP3 version of this for the phone / family hatchback / Mercedes SL600.

Might have found it, but the most reliable site I've come across so far is soundflush.com simple and effective.

One day I'll get round to sorting out the Soundcloud plugin for MPD and I'll be able to simply play the tracks directly from the playlists I create (at least when listening to music at home).

Yet another useful method is to use youtube-dl which works not just for YouTube, but also Vimeo, Soundcloud and many other streamed sources.  Also allows you to download playlists too, which is considerably quicker than using soundflush.com.

Sorted that and I can now play Soundcloud playlists on my RaspberryPi streaming device  :2thumbsup:

The Hip Hop World News

This was good too, but is no longer available on iPlayer (linking in case it resurfaces) Rubble Kings

Quote
Documentary that tells the story of how hip-hop was vital to the truce that ended the near-apocalyptic level of gang violence in New York during the 1960s and 70s. Using interviews with hip-hop pioneers like Afrika Bambaataa (an ex-Black Spade gang leader) and Kool Herc, unseen archive footage of street gangs, and filmed over seven years, the film chronicles life during this era of gang rule, tells the story of how a few extraordinary, forgotten people did the impossible, and how their actions saved New York City and gave birth to the biggest musical genre on the planet - hip-hop.

 Great to hear the Mobb Deep "Burn" beat for the first time in about 15 years too.

Speaking of which I dusted this off yesterday-

[Common sample voice] Ruh-ruh-ruh-ruh-ruh-ruh-res-errrection!

Thought I'd drop this in here after a Spotify random find.

If you like your beats "old skool" and free of vocals - so the sort of thing for a bit of background music while you entertain / work etc..

Check out Eric Lau - specifically his two "Examples" albums. Been on constant rotation chez TTT last couple of weeks.

Okay so this is grime rather than hip-hop and it's a few years old but if you haven't heard it before it's rude as fuck and catchy as fuck....

For anyone who likes some industrial crunch and horror tropes in their hip-hop -- new Clipping album out, Visions of Bodies Being Burned.

Live performance of one of the songs off it, with Daveed Diggs looking like he just rolled out to bed:
