Thought I'd check the UV index in case I needed my deep tan cream over the weekend.
Hmmm...think I'll be safe.

Excellent. Safe for us pale Scottish people to be outside then. Perhaps with a coating of Factor 6 just to be on the safe side.

It's that big shiney thing only occasionally spotted in the sky over Glasgow. You know it's out as the local papers are all carrying stories of UFO sightings

Cheeky cnut! What were you doing that was so fuckin' exciting then, eh, eh???!!! And what were
you
doing posting at 10 to 8 on a Friday night then, Mr I lead such an exciting life up here in Scotland - what was up, the sheep all gone to bed?
Actually, I'll have ye know I was working on a website to try to earn some extra pennies.... and I'd just out to Wharncliffe woods to sample the downhill runs and get scared.... you should know this - how much is a front disc brake going to set me back (ish, doesn't have to be anything too hot poop) ?

Get a set of Hope minis - just got them for my bike - absolutely genius - 110 quid a set and worth every penny. Don't bother with mechanical disks if you go out in the wet and gritty UK winter as they suffer from the same problems re grit and shite in the cables.

Pah, everyone knows that Hope Mini's are overrated. Give me a set of Avid SD5 V-brakes anyday!
(guess who's not prepared to pay for disk brakes at the moment...)

Yep - they look pretty good, but the problem with all cable brakes is that you have to look after the cables well - if you get water and grit into the cables of mechanical disk brakes they tend to go very spongy - I took one set off my bike and replaced them with V's 'cos they were such a pain in the arse (and I like tinkering with bikes........)
At the end of the day, you get what you pay for.....

I've got Magura Julie disc brakes, which apart from sounding sexy if said in a deep voice work bloody well and cost £100 for a pair. A friend up here got Hope Mini fitted on the front last weekend, we went out on some downhills and Monday he was back in the shop to get one on the back too! Remember you might need a new front hub, and possibly a rim to go with it
Whatever you buy remember to get some spare pads, there's nothing worse than not having a pad to hand to cause a bit of blood seepage
