Sourcing stakes for abseil
April 29, 2010, 02:22:41 pm
Anyone know a cheap source of reliable abseil stakes?  Ideally the type you see in Pembroke – the new silver ones with the cross bar.

I heard a rumour of people using some kind of corkscrew thing that was removable (the type you get for caravans presumably) but the only examples of these I can find are too flimsy.

Cheers

You can get steel angle for a few quid a metre. I always thought that those corkscrew dog tetherers would be strong enough in decent ground, but never tested it.

Something like this.

Lengths of angle iron are cheap, solid and last for ages, from your friendly local iron monger or scrap yard.

Would angle aluminium not last longer?

Longer than iron Shirley? Quite a few Aluminium stakes tround here have been in for years and look in better nick than the iron ones.

Or is it because the stakes are too high?
