after a google my need to know if the place is open mid week at the moment has failed. Not helped by my shite knowledge of french.

I'm lookin to feed the horde (aka my family) there one day this week for lunch, pref tomorrow... to avoid disappointment.. is it open for lunch in the present season?

You may be dissappointed to find out it has closed down, seemingly for the long term. We were certainly gutted on our wet trip in January.

Le Jaspere Sharpe recommended a bar in larchant - le pelerin something or other? looked nice but was closed when we tried to go.

Yeah as I said it suffers from the usual stupid French opening hours but it's very nice if it is open. Run by a really friendly woman (not so usually French).

We had a gite in Larchant and struggled to get in there when it was open. When we did get in though, it was great. Good food and were made really welcome.

Yeah we've been back three years in a row and the woman always remembered us and made us really welcome (inc not minding the sprog chasing her yappy dog around). As you say it's always rammed with locals eating there which is a good sign.

The Tousson place is nice, but nothing to compare with the Dame Jouanne restaurant.
It is, well it was the best place ever fro climbers, hikers, horse and bike ridders, etc ...
Right into the forest, good and big food for a vezry reasonable price.
It says it shall pen late 2010. well, let's hope so.
The Pellerin Gourmand, just by the big church in the village itself is great too, and tere is a new one just outside of Arbonne on the road to Milly called La Feuillardiere. also in the forest, but quite small so better phone to book.

Which one did you send us to when we were out, Stef?  It was nice and seemed to be a bit futher out into the forest, they did good horse (for eating, not riding).

I have heard good things about the little restaurant in Buthiers, the one on the main road (if you can call it that ;-)  )

from Herbeauvilliers to Buthiers, on the left just by the junction where you turn right to go to Buthiers for the climbing.

Been meaning to go there now for ages, but not been yet. The menu is outside so you can check if the kids will like it.

It does always look closed, but what I have heard, though it looks closed from the outside, it is often open.

I have heard rave reviews about http://www.chateau-augerville.com/ which is only a 2 min drive away (esp if you go by the back road).

I really think we need to start going out more, of course sacrificing our selves just so that we can give people restaurant reviews

The one I sent you when you were here must be the Chalet Jobert at the Dame Jouanne, though I am not sure gfor horse ????!!!!
restaurants very rarely serve that kinda meat.
in Buthiers, just by the climbing area rea 2 restaurants, almost facing each other. when comming from the "big" road, the one on the left called Canard is the good one, the right side one is more some kind of cheap for the purse and for the plate. It might have changed owner last winter though. Neal, any info ?
Then, the one in Augerville, by the chateau golf course, is absolutly great, but the so is the budget !that's the place you shall be invited by your beautiful knight Magpie !!!!!
however, we all hope and wish that the Dame Jouanne opens soon, and in the same spirit it was.
