Just been thinking really, with the winter upon us and most certainly a spate of hard routes yet to be sent/repeated. Yes routes I'm sorry!

Would you rather fall and sustain some horrendous injuries - requiring years of recovery, or kick the bucket?

Talent or/and hard work breed success.

Success breeds confidence.

Confidence breeds more success

The bubble won't burst as long as you choose your routes in a shrewd fashion (and climb a lot, thus staying fit).

When I was fit and did lots of routes, I did used to feel a mental burn out at some point in the year, when I needed a break. A bit of bouldering or sport climbing always sorted me out. Still a head stress if you take it seriously - but a different type of head stress altogether.

Don't worry comparing yourself to people like Pete Robins - he is the most technically gifted climber I have ever seen. Utter flambouyant genius at the crag, and down to earth, self deprecation in the pub - a rare combination I'm sure you would agree.
