Peak District Weekend Forecast
March 24, 2010, 09:14:57 pm
Can anyone tell me what the weather is going to be doing this weekend/early next week in the Peak District (S.E).?  Metcheck seems to be forecasting 65mm next Tuesday, or is that too far into the future for any kind of accuracy?

No. Nobody can. The Met Office are most likely to be closest to fact, but it's highly likely to be wrong. I'm curious why you think that UKB will have some divine knowledge which the expert don't.

I'm hoping some gnarled veteran out there can forecast the weather from the state of the lichen and the flight of the birds?  Funnily enough I never check Met office only Beeb and Metcheck so I guess I have learnt something!

As far as I'm aware, everyone except Metcheck use the Met Office's data, so looking at the BBC is much like looking at Met Office.

I found yr.no on my travels and found it pretty reliable, I haven't a clue what data it uses. Carlisle Slapper pointed me to one thats german I think which supposedly has a lot of historical data and is more accurate at long range forecast but I'm afraid I've forgotten the address and I think you needed a modicum of Deutsch to read it.
(On a side note: Should threads like this really show up on isitgreasy/twitter?)

weather forecasts have really gone out of the window recently. even the long range forecast. i believe its due to a change in the air patterns over the atlantic.

the cave is in great nick at the minute

Mate of mine pointed that out to me recently. Have been monitoring and it's often fairly reliable (which I think is the most you can hope for). Remarkable database of places too.

Also been checking out  http://www.netweather.tv/ but is pretty bobbins.

http://www.wetter3.de/?

Main benefit of this site is it actually publishes the Met's actual synoptics (plus Anglo/ deutsch speakers may appreciate the URL pun).

The only two sites I really pay attention to are the Met Office and MWIS (more detail on mountain areas, not all every day though.) The problem with Metcheck is they rely on computer generated forecasts which are often spectacularly wrong but never get corrected.

http://www.xcweather.co.uk - seems pretty good for up north.

Again I dont know where the data comes from.

http://www.xcweather.co.uk/ looks nice though it is telling me stuff I don't want to know.  How is it that I can book leave months in advance and still manage to pick the days with rubbish weather  :boohoo:

However if I stitch together the best bits from xcweather and the beeb then the outlook is almost sunny and bright! It's a new world record Rimsy.

Currently bright and breezy and a really good temperature, albeit with the very odd spot of rain.

Some short but very sharp showers about. For real-time weather you can't beat the Met's radar.

We need a good breeze in these temps. It was boiling at Froggatt yesterday. Full on T'shirt weather.

Finishing work at 3. Worth heading out or are the showers drenching the rock?
