Compression Tops

Inspired by the Accapi thread, but sticking to the normal versions...
Who's got one, when do you use it and do you rate it?

I've a tanktop-style running shirt made by Adidas, I don't recall the finer details of their campaign, but compression was certainly part of their angle.

I don't rate it: it makes me sweat and that's the last thing I want on a big outing.

I've got a 'Skins' compression top.  Can't say I've noticed any endurance or recovery benefits.  I tend to use it as an extra layer when it's cold.

I have a number of tops from back when I was a spindly 32" waist. They are now very tight and compressing. I don't wear them outside the house coz I look like this

Any training advantages are diluted into insignificance by the extra effort needed to haul the fat that causes the tops to compress me.

I think such formerly loose and now tight attire is generally termed depression tops...   :)

I have an exoforce gear extreme compression top, used to use it weightlifting and it is brilliant, cheap too. I think it cost be around 40 quid a few years back.
It is extremely tight though, to the point of aiding leverage as well as compression, it's certainly several levels above your average base layer in that respect, although not something you would want to wear for more than an hour or so I reckon.
In the past I have certainly noticed substantial gains from using it during training for a few weeks at a time here and there, it helps to delay fatigue and let's you push for a little longer until you get pumped to the point of failure, which is very helpful at times.

There should be a few tight fitting suits coming up cheap on ebay soon.

As much as I'm loving the comedy replies........

Like abarrow, I'm quite interested to hear peoples' experiences of using compression tops climbing.

Do poeple wear them climbing? Are they restrictive? Anyone sleep in them afetr a hard session? Any evidence of the French/Spanish using them (they always seem a step ahead of us)?

I can't wait to see you traversing around the kids boulders in something unsociably tight.

I got one of those long sleeved Adidas tops, and while they keep you warm they can restrict the blood flow in your arms a lot, especially when on long routes and you start to get pumped.
Slept in it quite a few times when camping too, never really noticed any difference to recovery rate though.

Have you anymore to add Drew? Have you tried wearing it for recovery?
