iOS7 has daylight saving bug similar to that identified in iOS4 in 2010 (which was actually fixed, but you'd think they could sort such a simple thing out by now).

I used to use it ages ago too.

Seems thin on details as to why they're winding up, although the rise of streaming media and pre-installed media players will have had an impact on its usage.

Reddit’s empire is founded on a flawed algorithm  :geek:

Seems like a pretty obvious error (once you know what the algorithm is).

Samsung expect you to waive your rights for their warranty (worth reading most amusing).

Here are the videos.  Samsung wanted, amongst other things, this video to be taken down before they would honour the warranty...

In repsonse to the rather over-bearing requirements Samsung tried to impose (including not making the terms of the agreement public) he made this video....

....which has now had twice as many views than the first one!

We all use them, and curse when they fail, but heres some real data analysis, gathered over four years from a company that kept 25000 hard drives running over that period on...

How long hard drives live for

If only analysing human survival data were so straight-forward (left and right censoring, co-morbidities, non-constant hazard ratios etc. etc.)!

Maybe a little O/T but Ihad to pp[ost this somewhere. I logged a call to our IT department to get IE8 upgraded as many websites are no longer supporting it.

The reply:

Quote
Good afternoon,

Unfortunately we are unable to provide IE9 onto any machines as IE8 is the company default web browser. Apologies for this.

Kind regards,

Maybe they're going to bump you straight to IE10.  :P

More practically if you're allowed USB drives then you can get programs such as Firefox to run completely off of those.

Half of us have been moved to Windows 7. I have not idea why the other half are still on XP.

Similarly we are totally locked down, but I can still run Chrome Portable off a local drive.

I'd imagine by Apr none of you will be on XP given it is no longer receiving updates etc. from then on.

Nat got into trouble when I 'upgraded' her work laptop.

Got an account with Adobe/Sony/SnapChat/Vodafone/Yahoo! or one of a handful of other sites that have had security leaks? Check to see if your account has been compromised.

Linksys resurrect their classic router design

Seems a bit pricey, but if its as robust as the WRT54g it'll be solid as a rock.  I still use one of the two I have as a network switch.  Great that they are opening up the source code/APIs from the start this time.

This could push the price of processors (and in turn computers up) but is a good thing....

Intel chips to be "conflict free"

On the flip side, if they may need less materials...

Dual-core Intel chips the size of an SD card

Some of the data has been broken down by manufacturer

Seagate might have to pull their socks up.

I might shop around for Hitachi's next time I'm in the market for HD's.
