The thing that gets me is that the "industry" are so far behind in terms of the technology.

Its only recently that they cottoned on to cheap streaming being a method of combatting traditional torrenting that they hated, and now the ante has been upped with an improved system of streaming the media.  Why they aren't all over this sort of stuff and trying to adopt it rather than suing people who are early technology adopters is beyond me.

Presumably it's because, depite all the bleating about piracy killing the industry, the big players are still raking in ridiculously huge piles of cash. Like most things in the entertainment industry, until they actually feel the pinch they don't bother innovating.

:agree: I am reminded of this:

UK government are still forging ahead with their own version of China's Great Firewall by getting backdoors to YouTube....

the British government has to do more to deal with some material “that may not be illegal, but certainly is unsavoury and may not be the sort of material that people would want to see or receive”.

Fuck of you twats I don't need your moral arbitration.  :wank:

Take note Apple...EU votes 550-12 to standardise mobile phone chargers to help reduce wastage

Also of good news is that they are also considering voting to abolish roaming charges (they're due to reduce massively later this year anyway).

EU passes strong net neutrality laws, along with major roaming reforms

Of particular note...

Quote
The amendments (PDF) were introduced by the Socialist, Liberal, Green and Left blocs in the European Parliament after the final committee to tweak the package – the industry committee – left in a bunch of loopholes that would have allowed telcos to start classifying web services of their choice as “specialized services” that they can treat differently.

:2thumbsup: :clap2:

<sarcasm>Those pesky socialist/libreals/greens keeping things equal for everyone.  How dare they, do they not know that there is money to be made?</sarcasm>  ::)

Hearbleed Information

This is something that everyone should pay attention to because it affects almost every site that you have to log into, email, internet banking, forums, shopping etc.

Test if a given site has been protected by going to here

My understanding of the best approach to deal with this is that if a site you use regularly passes, clear its cookies from your browser and login and then change your password (there is little point in changing your password before hand).

Protect the net neutrality as the Federal Communications Commission is attempting to kill neutrality.

Likewise, Index on Censorship said removing results from search engines was "akin to marching into a library and forcing it to pulp books"

Not its not, its akin to getting the library to delete the index of one of the books they hold, because the ruling is simply that the search results should not link to the original article which remains in-tact.

FCC still planning to end Net Neutrality, well worth letting them know what you think about this.

Personally I think its a really bad idea, I pay my ISP for bandwidth, its no one else's business what comes over that bandwidth (providing its legal).  Whether I look at GIFs of cats or stream Netflix, I've paid for it already and there shouldn't be paid for prioritisation of data.

If you use TrueCrypt to encrypt your harddrives...

Quote
WARNING: Using TrueCrypt is not secure as it may contain unfixed security issues

This page exists only to help migrate existing data encrypted by TrueCrypt.

The development of TrueCrypt was ended in 5/2014 after Microsoft terminated support of Windows XP. Windows 8/7/Vista and later offer integrated support for encrypted disks and virtual disk images. Such integrated support is also available on other platforms (click here for more information). You should migrate any data encrypted by TrueCrypt to encrypted disks or virtual disk images supported on your platform.

30% of the cost of smartphones covers patents  :wank:

Surely they could all sell more phones for less if they weren't bickering over who came up with...

(one of the features Apple have been trying to sue Samsung over in the US).

Thankfully there seems to be some common sense emerging with regards to software patent (and patent trolls in particular).

If you really want to stop the Gov reading your mail. Write about 1000 or so each day in reply to all those nice Nigerian widows who so liked your profile and feel they can trust you with all that money daddy left them...
